Remote transfer box

Post by madtoolbox »

Im putting together a escudo/hilux/commodore V6. I have a remote transfer box from a patrol. Anyone have any reasons why i shouldnt use it behind the V6 auto? Be nice to get some feedback before i mount it up.

Also, where is a good supplier of rose end joints for making my diff links.

You'll end up with a super short rear driveshaft with a remote transfer in a Scud. May be ok in a LWB though?

If its all going to be hybrid, just use a bighorn auto and transfer case on the commy6. like smurf said. short rear tailshaft, i looked into this for mine too.
Dont follow me. i'll get stuck and need a tow..

Does the bighorn trans bolt onto the commy ? or are you talking about the bighorn transfercase onto the commy trans.... don't think the later would be a good option in a scud, the front drive shaft is going have clearance options to the trans sump

well, i cant say from experience but I was under the impression the bighorn auto fitted the commy, but now i've re read my info on it i think i meant just the transfer case.
i have no idea on clearance.

What side is the front drive shaft output on the Isuzu transfer case?
I thought it was the LH side.

thinking i will use the lux chassis and shorten it up as much as i can when running gear in in place, will fit the scud body after that.

I know a guy who has used that motor / box combination and has had all sorts of issues getting rid of horrible driveline vibe caused by having to push the transfer off centgre slightly so the front shaft cleared the auto trans pan. Think he has it straight now but may have lost a bit of front flex to stop front drive shaft hitting auto. Did it ona standard lenght GQ chassis and has basically 2 ujs as a jack shaft and a pretty short rear shaft. Motor is back a bot though to increase approach angle.
Toy - Zuk chassis tub, hilux 4.88 axles and transfer, Nissan CA18DE motor and auto trans, sc12 supercharger, 32 10'5 simex, twin motor 8274 custom freespool. Well the parts are all there in various corners of the shed

Bolt on "No" it needs a custom addapter made for it to work.... the reason its used is becouse the output spline of the trans is the same as the input spline on the bighorn transfer case so no expensive machining of splines....
I have one in my shed at the moment I built up, the clearance issues can be beaten if you build a custom D/S thats very narrow to clear the trans sump and clock the trans to help clearance
