advice/opinions on 60 series landcruiser

Post by albundy »

Looking at a 1989 60 series ladnndcruiser 2H diesel 5 speed manual. One owner 18 years, looks to be in good nick. $6K. Thoughts, opinions please. Any issues with them, what to look out for.

good strong truck, good strong motor, good strong box. bit lazy on the power but strong. with age comes rust, check around window edges and A,B,C pillars with magnet to check for bog.

cant go wrong with the old 60 series for reliability, its normally rust that gets them from years of towing boats and dunking in the sea.

bolt a huffer on if you want more poke.

edit: or drop a chev in it

Thanks mate, pretty much what I was thinking. Hasn't been near the sea, been around Lismore/Kyogle way. Might go and have a serious look this weekend.

Hey Al
Heres a good site to have a read through.

Code: Select all

http://rustybrain.com/cruisers/faq.txt

Usual checks for a 60 -
Sagged springs
Rust of course :p but if its a hightop give the roof a real good check over.
Another choice site with tons of info and pics
(ive prob saved over 2000 pics now from various sites :D)

Hopefuly its a nice 60! Have seen a few for sale lately some at silly prices condition wise. Drove one a few weeks ago basic 87 with the barndoors etc full of rust, crappy repair job etc and he wanted 7k. Had a quick go around a carpark checked the rest of the rust and that was it for me!.

Eitherway good luck :D

If you can find one with the 12ht, they are a good ole rig. Other than that you will be horribly dissapointed with the total lack of grunt they have.
My old girl used to get caned by non turbo pootrols all the time.
Ugly is a state of mind..... and the state of my truck!
