19 - 20 Feb

Post by mudbugga »

I'll start :D

Fitted new front shocks and shackle bushes to my L200.

Edit Sunday: Re-indexed the front torsion bars (3 splines), and gave the L200 a small lift (25mm), just to get the front end sitting level. No more slanting down hill all the time.

I have had mine on blocks since Monday, been working on the brakes and giving it a full grease under neath... found out that I had a leaking front brake hose so had a new one made up and that has been fitted now...

Tomorrow I will be putting her feet back on after helping someone refit a motor and gearbox... sucker for punishment really... but it's for the greater good!

Cleaned truck form last weekend's test drive :) , half done then hose on waterblaster split. :(

Put new PS hose and fan belt on :) (Hose got caught in belt last weekend!), belt jumps partly off cog again and won't stay where it's ment to be... :(

Give up for now, maybe will think of something while I take the dog for a run this arvo... :)
It's just more fun in a lada !!

fitted new tyres to the Saf, managed to pick up a set of 33 inch Maxxis Bighorns off trademe for $1200 brand new (well less than 200kms) and on Safari rims. fitted them and took them out for a test drive with a few of the Taranaki 4wd boys, they let me tag along on their 2 day event  had a ball and now have a completely new respect for different types of tracks, driving a section past a slip and having 1/2 your tyre hanging out in the air with a 200 meter drop off is pretty heart pounding stuff

Image

new tyres :)

Image
we almost lost the Paj in this hole

Image

Saf walking through same hole after a bit of filling , the new tyres really transformed the truck,

Image

and Ive found my next 4wd !!!! old WWII Ford? found in paddock next to a bush hut in the middle of nowhere

well went to Woodhill. Stayed 2 hours and cracked the front diff mount. Was going down an orange track and while on an angle a large root got hooked on the crossmember. Got towed out back but whenever I turned left in 4WD it would shudder like crazy.

Least I didn't dent my tank. But thought I had seen a crack on the diff mount before but never paid attention to it.

Photo's below. Guess Its time I get a steel front diff, and manual hubs, and a lift, and a locker, and a cambelt water pump etc

Oh and the green was from a leaking frost plug that is sorted now.

Oinked the motor and box out of the commadore, pulled auto off, getting ready to make transfer/auto adaptor to stuff it into escudo. Washed cow shit out of hair/eyes/nose/ears. Note to self, no more paddock bashes before getting under donor cars.

Well Its the first time in 3 years of using it that it has actually broken anything, so its not that unreliable. But yes. Never ignore stuff.
