robbed by insurance company!!!

Post by jakwoo39 »

i have just bought a 1986 landcruiser with a 13b-t and to my suprise when i rang my insurance company, my monthly payments have gone up because of the engine size. m last car was a petrol 3.5l and it costs more to insure this 3.4l turbo diesel. Im currently with club auto (most companys wont insure a 19 year old male with that engine size) can anyone tell me of a company that has fair prices for diesels

using the forum search i came up with this link:

http://www.offroadexpress.co.nz/Forums/viewtopic.php?f=37&t=6895&hilit=insurance+companies+barley

have a read, they are very good to deal with, and some have had good dealings in the events of claims as well i believe!

being a turbo pushes the price up .... being under 20 doesn't help either, club auto is more aimed at modified ricers ... not 4wd's. yes they will insure you but charge heaps to make up for the underwriting risks.

Check out barley.co.nz as well

Insurance is rather illogical.

what will roll first a surf or a hot rod that might not go out in the rain.
i know it sounds unfair but its all done on risk exposure.

I might be off track here but make sure that they don't think that the engine's a 13B turbo (rotary)...

Why do you have to use Clubauto? Lots of claims, DIC etc. If no to claims etc then you shouldn't be using them with a standard 4x4. An unmodified turbo deisel will not be penalised for being turboed. Even an aftermarket turbo won't matter as the turbo rules are around high performance cars and 4x4 aren't considered high risk.

I can sort out a couple of quote for you so PM me if your interested.

the reason i used club auto was because they were the only company that would insure my 3.5l BMW, and now i am looking for a new company to cover me.

Was going to be over a grand for 3rd party when I tried to insure a Safari at the age of 18. $450 ain't to bad! haha.

Turbo can make a difference. Before I got the Patrol I was getting quotes for a few different cars that I was looking at and everywhere said that they would insure me in a 4.2L or 3.4L Diesel (can remember the costs but they were up there) but if it was turbo'd they wouldn't even consider it.
Hadn't even had a parking ticket at that stage.

Why bother.

3rd party and save the rest, earn interest on it and use that if you write it off, again haha.

Club auto = No claims pay outs

There is a story I would really like to explain with this post but as Im in the same town and know the person and what happened I better not as I could get in trouble.

I will advise you that the person who runs Club auto used to run NAC Insurance (until it was brought out by the company I work for).

Try every other company there is you will never know your luck on who will say yes.

I pay $220 a year for my Isuzu bighorn at $5,000 with Full Cover with all the extra's. Thats 3.2 V6 and with any mods I have done. $300 excess

I pay $290 a year for my Nissan Skyline GTS25-T (2.5 Turbo) and thats the same cover but a sum insured of $7,000. $500 excess

This is at my staff rate though.

the excess will be the only difference with petrol Turbo and non turbo cars. (Euro cars also fall in the $500 excess catagory).

In your case. I would insure you from the info I know. But with more questions would give me more of an idea.

PM me if you want a price I can see what I can do.

Cheers

Hey mate sorry to bother you.
Just wondering if its no trouble if you could do up a quote for me?

Im just about to turn 20 have an unmodfied ln130 surf (2.4td) bar some 32" mud tyres.

I have lost my license 3 times (demerits, demerits and driving while disqualified).

If its too much hassle dont bother as im not in a huge rush (dont get my license back til june) but would like to know what im looking at.

My last car was an Mitsi Libero with an evo conversion and nac wanted $4000 a year for full cover + $4000 excess to insure it for $8000

Cheers

How is that wrong? You are obviously a risk to insure if you managed to get enough tickets to lose your license! I would have charged you 18k!

Hey Caleb,

How much is your wagon worth and why type of cover do you want?

I can do a estimate but as you have no licence there will be no cover while you drive it and once you get it back you will have a 12month stand down period and after that we would cover you under the policy or next renewal (which ever comes first).

But a price can definately be done so you will have a fair idea.

Cheers

Hey Ray,

Im not driving it at the moment (on road anyway)

Im not sure of the value of it maybe 3-4k? Its prob not worth fully insuring til I get some more mods done to it.

So with the stand down Im not able to get insurance cover for a year?

Cheers

Ok sweet so full cover at $3.5k with no loss of licence would cost you $592.98 a year $53.44 monthly $24.66 fortnightly.

third party + fire and theft is $385.12 a year $34.93 monthly $16.12 fortnightly with a $3.5k sum insured

with the stand down period we will cover the vehicle as long as another driver is listed onthe policy. It will just make you Null & Void from the policy inception so cover is there but your not covered until we lift the N&V at the policy renewal (in 12 months time)

Havn't read all the posts but just something I'm having to deal with at the moment. I have a very tidy stock 85 sj413 ragtop. Its been hit in the front. Its insured for 4k. Fair enough given condition however the dirty insurance pirates won't repair anything over 2k worth of damage and want to write it off instead. It would be very hard to get a similar condition replacement and I don't understand what the deal is.
The crash was solely the other parties fault and still I'm the one getting screwed over as I couldn't really just go and get another one.

If the coverage says 4k why are they so keen on writing it off at that sort of repair cost?....other than they are death traps haha.

With the company i work for if the value to repair is 75% or more than the sum insured than its a write off. If you feel you can fix the car cheaper you can advise them that you want to be paid out and buy the wreck back but still keep the rego live. If they say they have to dereg it because its being written off thats a load of sh1t.

Unfortunatly the other parties (op) company may have different guidelines or the op could have a third party policy that can sometimes make things complicated they should also write you a CHQ for $4k and no less. They should let you buy it back for no more than $1k probably less but no more like I said above make sure you get it back with live plates.

What company is this?
