Christchurch. How to help?

Post by red-devil »

Hi, I work with red-devil here in Chch and he let me login to see if I could help/get-help/organise anything to help down here.

First of all, he and family are fine, just very limited communications.

Secondly, he had mentioned how, after the Sept quake, some of you guys got together and helped with water delivery to hard-to-reach places.

I have family involved in the tank manufacturing business and I'm seeing if I can get some 1000 litre water tanks to Chch (or go to pick them up).

Is anyone able to help with delivery/trailers etc if I can get tanks up here? I feel like a spare prick at a wedding not being able to help; and I am probably off work till Monday giving me spare time. Will look at working in with civil def or similar to get to paces they can't.

I have a Cherokee (fishing hack) but no trailer.

Cheers to anyone who can help (and is there a better topic area to post this in?).

My contact details are:
David
03 3479159 (not too late as young daughter)
0275341717 (my work mobile)
davcav@snap.net.nz (hope this doesn't break any forum rules):(

OK guys, I have access to one tank and trailer so I'm getting those now. I have a friend how has offered to go out-of-town to pick up a couple of tanks when they become available. I will keep everyone updated as I will have laptop and data connection with me.

We now have a listing on TM for emergency accomodation in Wgtn.

However I would again make the offer to the extended ORE family and friends first. Come up, sleep, rest, eat, regather your self and the Wgtn crew will (I'm sure) resupply you for your return home. I will even drive you back down at no expense if needed. The room is very large and comfortable with ensuite, pets, children welcome. You are welcome to stay as long as you wish.

If others around the area wish to open their homes as well I am very happy to pick anyone up from the ferry or airport and take to your home in the outer lying area's as I'm close to both

I have a decent sized trailer you can borrow if you need it for a tank. Would love to help but am setting up temporary office space for engineering teams coming down from up north.

If you know of a freight company operating depot to depot for anything other than emergency gear please let me know via PM. I need to get PC's Laptops screens etc from Dunedin, Auckland and Welling ton to CHC.

An update from Graham (Oversz)

Many of you have been contacting me. Your offers of help are awesome.
Would you PM me if you can help. I dont know if I can use you. I don't know if I have the resources you need to be able to use you.

I have put this together to give a small postcard on whats up.

We are not allowed into the Central City. The Eastern Suburbs are buggered. Their needs though are simple. They need to keep them selves busy and have been removing HUGE quantities of sand through the liquefaction. They need water, drinkable without boiling as most have no power. And toilets, basically a plastic bag, bucket and a hole to bury it.

I got sick of no one telling me what we could do to help so took the bull by the horns and have been distributing drinking water and organizing other club members. We are also offering individuals any help with physical things but most are able to cope with that.

How about taking a shovel and a wheel barrow, rolling up somewhere and say I'm here to help. Dig a toilet hole for an elderly person. Take a flask of hot water and make a tea or coffee for someone, a batch of scones.

From the North Island? I suggest you get in touch with Red Cross or just do it. Come down and where you see a need fill it. Give me your number and if your down here and I need something I will be in touch.

I’m sorry if all that seems ‘up in the air’ but that is how it is. Just doing the water, people are just so grateful. I have had hugs and pats on the back and tears just because we did what we were able to do.

And this is going to go on for weeks

Cheers

Graham

They DO NOT want donated goods. Money is what they need

A few of our members have asked if they can help, well since I left the group at Ferry rd I have been on the end of a wheelbarrow and shovel helping an elderly but very fit gentleman who I don't even know that has the most beautiful veggie garden that is covered in 200mm deep Liquefaction he has spent the day by himself and as made a big hole in it but there is still a couple of hours left to do for about 4 fit guys or girls, I have volunteered to help Graham (oversize) in the morning so can't make it, can anyone help????, some of you will need to bring wheelbarrows and shovels. I don't want to put his address up but it is in Hoon Hay Rd near Sparks Rd give me a call or PM and I will let you know. Thanks,

anyone have a good sized water pump to drain our houses/streets let me know. Waste of time digging out silt for it to fill up with water and flow through the houses. Avonside = toast.
