terrano suspension
terrano suspension
hi, im only new to this site and have a 1991 nissan terrano v6 petrol, i was out mucking around last weekend and keep getting hung up, (bellying out) i thought about raising the suspension a bit, i dont have a heap of money but did think about winding up the torsion bars in the front and maybe some spring spacers in the rear,??? i have herd a few good and bad things about winding them up but cant really see why not?? i only want to go a couple of inches, and the tyre size im running is 265/70/15, and if i run spring spacers will i need longer shocks?? your help is appriciated
Nick,
Nick,
Re: terrano suspension
if you are after the cheapest way then winding torsions and coil packers is the way to go... however there are limitations, and alternatives
as always said in these forums, search is your freind

Re: terrano suspension
I used to have my bars wound up, but like them at the factory setting +10mm space to the bump stop. I hated the rebound and kept spitting out upper bump stops

The rear 50mm lift springs are cheap and easy to fit.
I just fitted and test drove some EFS Elite in the rear, farkin impressed
am saving for front ones now
I have some old man emu rear shocks here that are ok but need new rubber or plastic bushes, cheap.
Hope this helps.

I keep looking for the loose nut behind the wheel, but I can't find it!!
Re: terrano suspension
winding up your torsion bars is not going to give you any more clearance under the diff. To get more clearance under the diff you need bigger tyres. To fit bigger tyres on a terrano, say 33" you will need a body lift, suspension lift, cut front and rear gurads and a steering up grade/strengthening. Not an easy fix. i know as I went through all this myself and finally bit the bullet and upgraded to a safari. But a terrano on 33" has more clearance under the diffs then a safari on 35", 280mm from memory to be exact.

I called into Traxion and twisted his arm til he sqeeled like a pig

The springs, I got a couple of years ago from Taraxion and got 2nd hand shocks off trade me.
I can't remember how much they were.
The new shocks in round figures were, under $350, with 100,000 k's, 3 year warrenty.
Give the boys there a call. Phil is da man

Al correct me if I'm wrong but winding up your torsions WILL give you more clearance under your front because the diff head stays in the same place and its the arms that are pushed lower which is what raises the truck and puts a greater angle on the cv's. I would assume i am miss reading your post and that you mean a suspension lift in the rear will not give you and better diff clearance in the rear and the only way to raise your REAR diff head off the ground is bigger tyres.
Never argue with an idiot, they drag you down to their level then beat you with experiance!

Hey u13turbo,
You need one of these, so you can leave your torsions quite low.
This what i have. Gives you the ability to bash the front over stuff leaving enough momentum to not get hung up in the middle.

Need to bolt the front right through first chassis cross member to stop it popping the M6 bolts out of the captured nuts

I'd like that for my truck, but freight would be a killer I think.

Ok people, move along. Nothing to see here. Thank you, move along.

Keep your eye out for one local, or I will.
The amount of stuff I see on-line down your way too. Shipping always a killer

Re: terrano suspension
hey people i have heard about swapping the front hubs around pretty much flipping them upside down and putting them on the other side to get more clearance in the front plus it gives u less angle on the cvs in the front can this be done or not?
Re: terrano suspension
and i think you also mean turning the top and lower ball joints???
Re: terrano suspension
According to my thoughts, you would swap right for left and invert the whole hub assembley and put tie rod end in from the other way.
I'm going to look into this next time I have front wheels off.
Cheers,

Re: terrano suspension
hey guys im still having troubles with my tierod ends they still bending i have wound down my tortions still cant work out why they are bending all the time i know i may be a lil rough but they shouldnt bend that easy should they? does anyone have any ideas in strenthening them? or what i need to do to stop bending them
Re: terrano suspension
Inners or outers?
Inners will be the dreaded drag link roll
Otters will be you too rough
What side do you bend the most?
Left side is worn idler bushes and/or shaft
Right side is you being too rough
Are the tapered shafts touching the chassis rails?
If they are then you are still too rough
Hope this helps.
