EFS or Maxi Trac or ?

Post by timmay556 »

I've got my coins saved up and I want to buy some longer travel shocks for the front of my Hilux the ones in there are genuine from when it rolled off the floor back in 1994. I've only got standard height springs in there but I hear you can fit the standard to 50mm lift springs as the front springs on a Hilux do flex a touch more with longer shocks.

Which brand do you recommend? I would be grabbing the front shocks + steering shock.
EFS comes to around 480$
Maxi Trac comes to around 360$

What other decent options are there?

Cheers

yep x2
I've always had heavier trucks and always put OME shocks in them and they seem to stand up to the use and abuse

Unless spending big money then EFS or OME are the only ones worth spending money on. Sure there are cheaper options but they both give you very good value for money and performance.

Cheers guys, I might replace the springs first. So I've spoken to line side and its only about 550 for new spings with an extra leaf with new bushes and flat top ubolts.

Best to do both springs and shocks together.
Without good shocks new springs will be buggered in no time and you will have wasted the dollars.

yeah? how so is that? I'm really tossing up between a 2" lift all round for 2100$ OME or just do the front. I don't recon that i need the extra lift and that a front air locker will give me much more improvement.

so many options :|

I had OME shocks in the rear (still have them in the front) and recently changed to EFS Elite in the rear. I never thought shocks would make that much improvement, but bloody hell, they are good. Saving for the front ones now
I have seen two guys break OME leaf springs at woodhill after just a few trips.
I'm not bagging them, but, I would be wary
Cheers,
I keep looking for the loose nut behind the wheel, but I can't find it!!

Try driving with shocks or worn out shocks and see how long your springs will last then.

Without shocks to take the rebound out springs are over worked. Why do you think they sell suspension kits with springs AND shocks. If you are doing a suspension lift then you do the front and rear together. Unless of course you are from the 70's when people used to jack up the rear of their cars buts that's a whole different matter.

I'm getting a 2 " lift OME for $1700 including torsions, springs, shocks and steering dampener for my surf. Is your $2100 including installation? Installation brings my total cost to $2000.

Yeah thats what they quoted me for JUST the kit. came with everthing you said there but yours is IFS? mines SFA if that makes the diffrence. Do you mind if I ask where you are getting your kit?

Further to that, torsion bars are damn expensive (the most expensive part) so I would have thought SFA would be cheaper? I assume that means instead of torsions you are getting springs for the front which definitely werent as much as the torsions.
