Can't help with an inspection but couple of things to consider.
Is it imported?
It's a non airbag model so won't have come from Japan.
Tyres are only 32-inch. have guards been trimmed at rear to fit?
Check for rust around alpine windows (question already asked and guy seems to think it doesn't have them) also rust in sills and rear body.
No under bonnet photo so needs to be checked out. Mileage seems reasonable for age but check engine for top end or lifter noise/rattle, especially on start up.
Monroe shocks are generally only standard length so may pay to check what has been fitted.
Air locker will be chinese, why hasn't it being fitted?
The bull bar is more cosmetic so don't expect too much of it.

Otherwise at initial glance it seems to have potential as a good base vehicle for off road.

The only factory diff lock is in the centre diff cos they are full time 4WD.

Thanks mate - aware of most of these issues, incl usual rust spots and wear in cams/ lifters, but did not know about the monroe shocks being std length only. Will ask about the air locker.

Ill back up cleary and say im 100% sure that there is only a centre diff lock. The picture just shows you that its locking the front diff to the rear diff

Just because it is full time 4wd doesn't mean you can't have a diff locker in it [ centre, rear and front..my VX Cruiser had this from the factory..worked well too ]

You are right, it can have front and rear diff locks being full time 4wd (goes real well too), but the Disco's did not come out with "Factory Diff Locks" until series 3, so this model Discovery only had the centre diff lock from factory.

You learn something every day... I did not think that any land rover model had ever come out with a factory cross-axle diff lock - as opposed to "centre diff lock" (i.e. front & rear drive shafts locked together), but a quick google search got me to the wikipedia article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Land_Rover_Discovery
which notes that: "The LR3 became the first Land Rover to be offered with a rear locking differential."

It also states that some of the early disco 2's had the same t-case as the first series, but that the linkage was disabled, because the engineers felt that the traction control would be enough.. A bit of customer feedback got it re-instated in late 2001.

All interesting but way too new (expensive) for me - I'm still looking at pre-airbag/ abs series 1's as good value for a club truck.
