2lt-e what to do

Post by tweake »

i bought a surf with a blown head with plans to drop my 3l into it.
the motor was pulled half apart, suspect head cracked causing overheating and i was told the mechanic found rusted bore, so they flicked it off.
now half way through pulling the 2lte out i've found the block looks to be a very new block and the rust seams to be just surface rust. no bore wear whatsoever and still has cross hatching. can't see any cracks in the usual places on the head.
it looks to be just a head gasket gone (which is missing).

now do i put the 2lt-e back together and see if its just a head gasket at fault or continue with 3l swap ??

Fit a 1kz and be done. Could even go manual diesel pump to make it easier

i'll stick to my original plan and fit my 2.8 in with the turbo gear and sell off the 2lt-e block/head.
1kz would be nice but $$$ will better spent on things like tires and suspension.

why not spend the money and get the head crack tested? Even you you would rather have the 3l the 2lte will be worth good money to sell if you have a clean crack test report. Even just the head will be worth good money to sell.

i saw the guide. it actually leaves a few things out but the conversion is not a huge job. got most things out of my old vehicle.

possibly get head crack tested, will do that if i rebuild it.
big curse is the 2lte motor was pulled apart and i have no idea if all the parts are even there. it would be better as a block and head for someone else's rebuild.
thats assuming the block is any good. the story was the block was rusted out. however it looks to be only surface rust.
