The Big 3 Tracks

Post by Kimbo »

The week end just gone a few of us at a loose end decided to have a look at a few tracks. We popped into Maratoto and had a ball driving clockwise down the kauri log and up the chimmey with all 3 trucks only having to winch once. 2 1/2hrs later we were loaded up and wandered around to Waitewheta and drove this track. We had to move a large tree that had blowen down in cyclone Wilma but still managed to get through in 5 hours. We stayed at Shapire springs in Katikati and woke at 3am to it fair pissing down but this had eased off a bit at 8aam so we set off over Thompsons track. 3 hrs 20mins later we had smoko at the summit where it was as dry as an arabs sandal and then we headed back over to katikati and loaded up and headed home. 3hrs to get back which include changing a flat tyre.
In Total 2 flat tyres, 1 alternator problem, 1 winch remote problem and 1 suspenion bush issue.
Maratoto is still a truck wrecker  , Waitewheta is still a long bad ass track  and Thompsons is a shit hole track :x but put all these togeather and it makes a great weekend 4WDing. :D

We had a C class buggy, a TR/ bush truck and an ex F class truck. 3 trucks, 6 guys and a goal. We had heaps of fun and achieved our goal with minimal drama or damage. :D
