hello

Post by vinceparts »

hey there, names vince new to this 4wd thing but got the buzz for it and keen to do more

played in a couple of mud puddles and been to murawai a few times but only recently went to the maratoto wires road track the past w.e with a few other trucks, awesum fun

made it to the river inn hut and started the maratoto loop and after about 1km into the loop, grenaded cv, bend bumper, blew all headlight park light bulbs, destroyed sump / bash plate, and a couple of snatches later, we decided our trucks werent up to the task,

really wanting to have a play up on the 42 traverse track or another mild 4x4 track in the middle morth island area if anyone can recomend any thatd be fab

currently own a 93 3.0td hilux ssr surf,
80 series cruiser springs in the back a small crank on torsion bars
rear cargo drawer set,

Welcome! :D

So what part of our orshum country are you in?

Also, are you in a club at all? They are probably the best way of getting out into the 4wd scene...

Welcome Vince.
I'm sure I have seen your truck around the upper harbour highway between the North Shore and West Auckland.
Getting in to a club is a good way to learn lots of tips and where you can go and where it an't so cool to be seen
Good looking Toyota.
Cheers,
Simon.
I keep looking for the loose nut behind the wheel, but I can't find it!!

Welcome :)

Pretty "brave" taking on the loop without much knowledge. Sounds like you got off cheap enough though, some might've paid, ooh, three grand for that kind of experience :D

As said, join a club. Best way to learn and to get in touch with those all important Toyota parts suppliers.

Dont worry i read that huge thread before about the rediculous recovery expense for those guys out thompsons, we made sure we brang heaps , i mean heaps of heavy duty ratchet straps as none of us had winches, which cam i handy when one of th etrucks dropped a front wheel into a big very deep bog while trying to manouvre around it and was very very close to rolling into the bog upside down, 3rd wheel off the ground at about head height

also which club do people reccomend as im not involved with any yet,

If you are out west, Norwest OHV is probably best: http://www.norwestohv.co.nz/

Otherwise there's also Auckland, Manukau, Shore and even Rodney.

Take your pick

Beachlands is about as East as you can get. It's even past Howick

Manukau are your nearest and are into a lot of competition stuff. Auckland meet in Penrose and are not really regional. Competition focussed members and family oriented events.

Oh, your link goes nowhere. Have you limited access away from public viewing?

Better :)

Some great photos. Looks like you all had a ball, despite the damages :D

Just one thing, I would strongly advise against drinking alcohol on the tracks. As you have already found, you need to have your wits about you, and not just the driver.

Yeah, alcohol + 4wding = not good

On a different note, Vincent, I notice you know Sean and Callum Lindsay. I do too. Just thought I should point that out.
