Friday is my day off Uni so...

I fixed the breather system on the Lada. Put fuel hoses in place of the straw-sized tubes. I filled the tank back up (from petrol containers) and there was no fuel spit-back or leaks.

The real test will be at the petrol station when filling it though.

i went from having a bare block in the garage to having the bottom end in, pistons in, head on, push rods in, exhaust manifold on. had no rtv to do anything else. fingers crossed the mu should spring to life next weekend. cant wait to see how the new engine runs

Off on a Club run tomorrow, discovered that the track we are going up is less than 3 km from my place!! so real keen to check that out.

After spending hours in the past panel beating and cutting rust out of an ungrateful ex bosses truck (never EVER work for "friends"... they will take advantage of your friendship ) I decided yesterday it was time I might as well do my own truck, so spent yesterday bashing the last of the Woodhill dents out of the rear quater panel and cutting and welding the last few patches of rust in the sunroof. came out looking ok and it's good to have the truck all matching colours again, I hate gray primer.

Also knocked up a fold down rear door tray for the camp stove so I can boil up the billy on 4wd runs, way easier than trying to find a sheltered spot somewhere on the ground.

converted the recovery box in the back of the saf so can open front and rear so gear can be removed from the box inside of the truck, when you can get the rear doors open.
installed new aircon belt , there are two sizes listed at super cheap both wrong, 13A0995 is correct for mine,

i did two or three re-powers a number of yearsago, great mates, got truck finished and on the road, never got a trip in one of them, barely saw them after the job finished, so fuk-it use by date expired, started charging for work,

moved into new abode. 3 car garage tall enough to drive the fawty into and has a gantry 'I' beam in there too.. another large shed for the tlr and other garage type thangs.. woot!

Got another truck. Picked up a 1988 Hulix Surf LN61 for $450 with wof and reg until June 2.4 non turbo. Little rust (not structual) and needs a new clutch (still drives though) and has a wine in the rear diff but he said its done that for 2+years so not going to worry about it. Pics to come.

Got the flares done on the 80, found out no one locally has brown interior bits, Oh and had to order a new drivers door lock from Toyota as noone had one of those either.

One the plus side, managed to get some stuff done for the wife.

Had an ORSHUM day at Woodhill today.

Nice and wet.

Went with Lincoln in the Zuki, and got pretty much everywhere Simon (Sibainmud) went. So pretty good.

I then broke the Zuki's grille in the muddy play area at the lookout (the only time I drove it) Oh well, it was already broken

Finally had enough of trying to rip the arse out of the centre link in my Terrano steering so machined up a custom setup after wrecking a link every trip.

starting with the stock bar with old joints ground out


One end machined out so that it is 18mm thick with a 25.00mm hole through the middle for the bronze bush to seat in.


Boring the hole out of the other end



Turning down the new center spigot, using 4145 high carbon tool steel


The assembly with phosphor bronze bushes in place



And with the assembly in the truck.


I did hit some problema fitting the new link, as either my pitman arm or idler arm were bent and didn't travel in the same arc so bound up when turning, so it took me a while to square that up and in the end still had to shim one end to get it all level, but overall really happy with the job, she's solid as a rock now, and according to the stress analysis in Solidworks I will tear the steering box out of the chassis before I bend or damage this thing!

Took 3 hours total machine time (incl setup) and about 2 hours to set up in the truck. Still cant believe how bad Nissan cocked this one up

Yeah, speaking figuratively there. The steering is the weakest part of the Terranos, so now it is on par with the rest of the truck which will easily satisfy my 4x4 requirements and mostly budget, after all I have only just found an interest in off roading in a 4x4, usually im in the bush on a bike! If I decide to get more into off roading, I will upgrade to something more suited such as a Safari or Landcruiser.

Fitted a set of manual hubs to the Bighorn and did a general check getting ready for a trip into the Akatarawas today with the CCVC club.

Perhaps see someone from here. I am the Bighorn with snorkel and lots of WTBS hooks

went on the Local club run today, the track we drove is less than 5km from my place!

started out as a reasonably easy 2wd track .. then 4wd Hi.. then finally about 10k in (and one dead Pajero) we engaged 4wd Lo and the fun began.

Drove in as far as we could get until a massive slip blocked our way, up steep hills and down even steeper hills, some requiring winching to get back up, had lunch at 400m looking out towards the lakes.

On the way back out the Zuk had a little misshap the wheel fell off!! along with everything else.
rest of the afternoon was taken up getting the poor little Zuk to a point that we could get the tandem trailer in close enough to load it up.

A bit of "bush engineering from Yours truely got a skid under the truck so we could get it up on the trailer.

Yet another excellently organized and run cub run and did i mention only 5km from my place

Well I went to Woodhill on the 19th, to try out the Airlocker, it all went well for the first couple of hours, first mud hole manage to do another C.V not to sure if it is snapped like the other one I did, then the compressor was running constantly which means air leak some where Iam hoping it is not in the airlocker unit, but I have a funny felling it is.

So alot of swear words were said that day .

I guess you could say this is an unachievment.

Well back to the drawing board I guess.

Yeah I have a Chinese locker, my friend has one and it has gone pretty well for him, that is after he pulled it apart and re-engineered it, seems to be going great for him now.

Ordered parabolics on friday, which if they are as good as people claim should drastically improve the ride quality and give me a bit of lift. will get photos when i fit them.

I can agree with that, still after a broken steering box, and almost worn clutch it still kept going, very mean machine.
