Rated snatch strops.
Rated snatch strops.
Hey guys, Just wondering for when i get a rated snatch stop, 8000kg, is it ok do just give the towing truck death to get the stuck one out? will the strop handle it? I've got a proper rope that wont break but the terrano probly wont like the sudden stopping, but with snatch strops its not isnt stopping.
Cheers

Who wants to take this one?

I keep looking for the loose nut behind the wheel, but I can't find it!!
Re: Rated snatch strops.
Right oh,
There is a difference between towing and snatching.
Never atempt to snatch with a tow rope
A snatch has 20% stretch for a reason.
More to come...........

Re: Rated snatch strops.
It's not the snatch strap breaking you have to worry about. It's the bullbar / shackle / hook mounting / attachment piont breaking free and becoming a missile
snatching is one of the scariest techniques you see in regular use out 4 wheeling and most people are oblivious to the masive forces and dangers involved untill it all goes wrong
If you can't get the stuck truck free with a slow 1-1.5m run up you should be using a winch.

Lol, i know it doesnt sound good, but my mate is currently stuck down river, this is the second night, and the only way out would be to go hard out....

Ahh ok... Bit hard on us poor students that have no chance of affording a winch... =/

And yeah thats what i was saying, snatching a tow rope will break shit, althought 2 times i have been stuck so bad, a guy with 35s on beam axle lux just snatches with a rope and it works pretty good. Not the safest way obviously.

Re: Rated snatch strops.
ropes, depends on what its made from. they can be stretchier than a snatch strap which can be useful if used correctly.

Haha its not me this time, I've learnt, Its mate pajero. And there was 5 trucks there, just no decent recovery gear. I had a cheap snatch strop which got him most of the way with the weak auto terrano, then had some fella in a surf thought he could do it, only thing he done was break my strop..

Re: Rated snatch strops.
You could also use a high lift as a winch or hook up 2-3 trucks together for a slow static pull
I'd lend you my Tirfor if I was closer , that would definalty teach ya to think about where you get stuck

Im going to invest in a High lift jack eventually. I dunno if a slow static pull will have any effect at all due to the location, the whole area around it is slippery as shit...
Thanks for all your help!
Time for bed. Will update tomorrow

I have a highlift u can borrow if u want to do it alone/the hard way.
ps. i have been out with a lot of guys that always back up the full 8 mteres and give it full jandle to snatch trucks out. I have seen a snatch strop break and hit the back of the towing 80 series and put a cow sized dent in the back of it. People that say you only have to worry about stray hooks are either crazy or have never been on the end of one that has broken.

Not much help to get the stuck truck out but as Chris has said above you put yourself and others at risk using the give it death technique, you can get away with it for years but at some stage something will fail and things can fail even when your not using the give it death technique, I've pulled a couple of bullbars off, seen others pull a few more bullbars off, pulled a hook off, bent a few hook mounts, broken strops, that shit does happen so be aware and dont think it dosent
