Slow Disco Build....with Pics

Post by Overkill »

Well I have been trolling this site for ages, getting info from here and there and finally joined the group.

I have a 97 Disco V8 with a little lift and 33's, few other little mods done like made an earthing kit, breathers for the diffs. Lots of issues with the electrics but that's what is great about these trucks.....you get to spend lots of time with them  I have bar work to do next weekend to finish her off for a while.

Here's a few pics of our outing today, up the Maungakotukutuku Road, just out of Paraparaumu (great play area without the need for keys or permits and plenty of REAL fun places to play), I think this little area is better than driving Odlins  .

Need to add on the back of the truck, Toyota recovery vehicle......that was definately the highlight of the day

Also if anyone is selling a set of lifted springs for a Range Rover or Discovery cheap, let us know......my friend with the blue Disco needs to get a little lift to stop scrapping the wheels :x

Welcome to the forum mate

theres plenty of trips posted up on the forum to get access to places to 4x4 so your not using fringe places your probably not supposed to be using, we mostly use Rallywoods but also go to the Aka forest with kiwi4x4, the south coast and Odlins amongst other places, Rallywoods has got a big hut, generator etc so we usually do overnighters up there

Gonna add the upgrades as I go here too, just incase someone cares  8)

Added a little style to the Disco

Went to Supercheap with my weekly allowance (cheers Wifeey) and got me a mesh sheet for a cover to be made for the snorkel head, ended up doing the grill and never got around to do the snorkel. Went for a BBQ at friends, so missed finishing it off properly.

I think it's come up trumps, so did my little helper  Couple of pics for a looks-see.......

I wanted to add more airflow into the radiator, so I removed the air-con rad (will turn into tyre pump) and mounted the fans directly onto the radiator. Connected up a switch (lovely one with a blue light) and relay so I can control the puppies, come up "mint az". Will get pics during the day..... :D

I have a recently roconed rad, 2 brand new fans already mounted, top rad hose cut and the inline temp guage adaptor fitted with a temp sender unit too. Was gonna fit then decided to leave what I had as it is an auto V8 rad and i have a manual which is the same fit but with out the trans cooler on the side which i dont need so if any one wants the complete set, give me a yell. All you need to do is run power cable, fit 2 relays (used them on spots now.....) amd in she goes.

used rads sell for $180 - $320 bucks so this is all for grabs all up $300 with fans etc as described. PM me is interested.

With all these Xmas specials from all the manly shops I couldn't help but shout myself a few goodies  .......and I didn't even get the ear slapped either, well not that hard anyway

Repco had a special on their Oricom UHF Radios, got a mint deal at $195....just have to get an aerial now :D While the wife was at work tonight, I put the kids down early and had half an hour to myself. Out with the Dremmel and little cut-off discs, made a nice hole for the radio, bit of a cut to the head liner and some brackets to hold it in place and Wha Laa, sitting in its new home.....

Will power it up this weekend and chuck in an aerial so we can be operational, NICE 8)

And Super Cheap had a great price on Dyneema rope, 10mm X 28M for $220, that's NICE too....

Because I have purchased a lightbar and winch, and also have my front air-con fans now being used as cooling fans....I thought I would get myself some nice looking switches, as you do

Purchased some Carling ones from a site in the UK last week and they arrived today, they are the same ones ARB use and you can put little labels on what switch you want it for.......NICE......

Will hopefully get time to start wiring up this weekend  Yeah right, within the next couple of weeks..........

Looks very tidy, well done.
What was the link for buying the switches? And I assume that card of icons came with them.

I got mine through this place......You can also get the card with the icons for a couple of dollars more.

Much cheaper than any place in NZ or Aussie  Average price from Aussie is $35 a switch
