Question about C.V'sand Hubs.

Hi All,

I have a 1997 Isuzu Mu,

I have on the front Ainsin hubs and at the moment the C.V is not fixed at the end were it goes through the hub so it is able to move freely within the hub (Passanger side).
I also have set of A.V.M hubs.

I have already managed to snap the tip of one C.V, and the last trip I did I almost managed to break another one but found out that it is ok, the hub might be damaged tho.
I know now that it is due to the C.V moving out of the hub which it disengages from the hub.

My question is to do with the C.V length is there a certain length the C.V needs to be, or do I need to get specially made C.V's which brings me to the hubs do I need to alter the hubs due to the fact that the C.V is moving freely side ways in the hub.

I was told there are 3 types of C.V's I think for this model or for Isuzu not sure.

If anyone can help me with this I would be greatfull as this is driving me bonkers, or if anyone has the same issue.

From your description I would say that you will find your missing a Circlip that fits into the groove on the very end of the shaft off the CV joint.

That circlip hold the shaft out into the freewheeling hub and stops it floating around.

Take a pic of your hub with the cap off it for us

I have taken the top off the manual hub and found out that the groove for the circlip has not come through even when I put a bolt in the end of the C.V and pull on it, which brings me to the next question do I need to modify the hub?

Sounds like you have some miss matched parts then.

Try the AVM hubs and see what happens.

I seem to remember saying the same thing

When I went from Superwinch hubs to AVM's, I had to skim down a thrust washer to get the right amount of shaft sticking out to get the circlip on. Sounds like the same issue.

I knowI know wanted to have Ansin hubs as they are robust, I have recently found out (other site) that the AVM hubs have a design fault and will break, dont know how true that is.

Never had Issues with previous C.V as it had no circlip.

Honestly this is doing my head in and had enough

i ran avm hubs on my mu for almost 4 years, never had one issue with them breaking or not working correctly

are the cv's two different lengths as in each side different?

both shafts are samer lengh. i get all my genuine cv's off a wrecker and never had one not the right lengh or size yet, it must be your hub not correct

Personally I would run the Asin hubs. They do however require washers and C clips.
