Zuki Pod Filter Conversion

Post by ZUKPWR »

Hey fullas,

I want to change the stock airfilter on my 94 Scud to a pod filter for performance and it's-cheap-to-replace reasons. I currently have the stock setup with a homebrew snorkel (Made from 65mm downpipe etc).

Has anyone attempted this? I'd just sick of forking out $80 odd bucks every time I need a new filter.

My idea was to run the pod filter inside some form of resealable container like a Systema sealed container (much like a lunchbox) and have the airflow meter stick into the side of it so to keep it waterproof. Problem is..... It's a bloody G16A/B so the intake pipe has a gooseneck with Vacuum and Pressure pipes running off it....

Photos to follow :)

I popped a hole in the fender, bought stainlees pipe cut to size, rubber nerd racer elbow connectors, stainless clamps and fitted the pod on the corner of the roof agaist the light bar i made. Faces backs wards and no water has got in ever.....so far lol.

Hunt around and you'll get one better priced than $80.

The pod filters we've run on other engines stop sfa aye. Fitted all properly and the engine still gets dusted. Seen it on our zuk, l200 and lawnmower I'll not use one again unless purely a road machine. Hunting around and finding a paper filter thats cheap and making a housing for it could be better maybe or using one of those foam mushroom type filters?

Pods from my experience seem to be fine until they cop a lot of dust ie offroad.

Yeah, thinkin I might stick to the paper filter, popped into Repco Wainoni post earthquake and their prices have dropped significantly since I last bought one a year 6mths ago, that and the most 4wding my Zuk has had has been over earthquake damage in New Brighton (where I live and one of the worst hit places) so it's really not much of a concern anymore...
