Need some techie knowledge...

Post by chevrolux »

Have a look at this auction...
http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing ... =363691391

Have a look at the questions. There is some debate about what kind of motor it is. Carjam says it is 12HT but the seller says 2H. Im assuming back int he day the 12ht shit itself and they put a 2H in and turbo'd it.
Just wondering if it's worth buying or not. Pretty keen getting back to a diesel but dont want a 2.4 shitter again. If people think this one is a bit dodgy will carry on looking. Thinking 1kz surf will be a good way to go. want something that can actually tow the zuk lol

Cheers,
Sam

it looks like a 12ht to me mine has the same tappet cover my old 2h had a dome style tappet cover the 12hts have a 2h on the block cause they sheer the same block .Im just wondering if all the 12ht stuff has been put on to the 2h including the tappet cover if so it would have more hp than a standard 12ht but shorter life i would go have a look as its a nice tidy truck and priced well

It is a 12ht. This is what the top of the 2h with turbo looks like

All small diesel engines with indirect injection need glow plugs but bigger diesel engines like whats in trucks and machinary are direct injection which means the tip of the injector is actually in the cylinder, these don't need glow plugs

maybe hes looking at the injector piping haha. Although I would of thought it had glowplugs but i'm not familiar with these engines

I'd be a little suspicious too.

I thought the HJ60 usually had the 2H and the HJ61 had the 12HT.
The cruisers with a 12HT usually had a VX badge on the back and side. Along with a red turbo badge on the grill and turbo written on the side.

It may just be that this cruiser has had a repower with a 12HT. Maybe they just left the glow circuit hooked up and that's the noise.

These trucks start first pop even without the air heater working. The pic is 12HT for sure. Best engine ever made. ha.

Cheers
