WTB: Mud tyres in northland

Post by 3.5Pajero »

Hey Guys,
The pajero just scrapped through its warrent with 2mm of tread - so time to replace i think!
Anyone out there with 31-33" mud tyres taking up space in the shed?
Does anyone know if you can get 32" in tyres?
We live in Whangarei, but are more than happy to travel up north and we head to auckland frequently.
:D
Cheers,
Travis

obviously the guy wants to save on the cost of tyres, he may be on a budget like a lot of other who are into this pastime. how about being constructive instead of posting dumb arsed reply's. and if I hear about some tyres I will let you Know.

Yup you got it in one - were building a house so mud tyres are not exactly at the top of the priority list at the moment. New tyres would be ideal, but sadly in this case I will have to humble myself to the point of buying someones elses unwanted seconds...
So to people with unwanted seconds - the offer to purchase still stands. Cheers

Why not? Cheaper, more common so if you wear them out you'll find some more easy. Bigger doesn't nessecarily mean better  BTW looks are for posers

Ok so I took Zukmeista's advice and got the tyre guy to fit some nice 185/55/15" retreads to my 15" Pajero mags. Slight problem in that now I get hung up on my diff on cats eyes in the middle of the road. Im not one hundred percent sure I could agree that bigger isn't better..but smaller definitely isn't better either. But hey at least no one can accuse me of being a poser??

Hey mate,

185x55x15 are tiny as (in my opinion) considering you have a 3.5 pajero, factory body lift you could have a picnic in your wheel arches.

I just got some 235/75/15 for a hilux Im selling and I thought that was really small.

How much did they charge you for the tyres?
Take them back and see what else they have.

I would recomend getting some bigger tyres 265/75/15 min or 31x10.5 +

I know there is the cost factor but there are some bargins out there. I can keep an eye out.

I picked up 4x near new 32inch Bridgestone M/T (just after the stopped making that size) for $200 on trademe.

Drove to Orewa the next day and got them.

All Kidding aside, I found that 31's ARE the best suited general purpose tyre size for the Pajero's, When I had mine I had a set of 31 inch Sumutomo's on mine and they went anywhere.

32"tyres are a rarer size and not many people I know up there use them (I used to live in Whangarei) ... maybe get hold of a Whangarei 4wd Club member and see if any of the club guys have a set of 33's lying around. unfortunately in my experience you can pay almost as much for a set of worn 33's as you can for a set of new Nankang Mudstars off Tardme

Hmmm I think you may be right Zukmeista...Sarcasm doesn't seem to work on the internets. Kinda got me curious to see what the Pajero would be like on tiny little car tyres now - could probably get rid of first&second gears and have a top speed of 80kph!

I was offered a set of 33" Wranglers on rims for a price I couldn't refuse so it looks like I will have to be a poser afterall! :?

Thanks to you all for your advice and input, look forward to seeing you out there!

  Looks like I must have not been reading it the way that was intended.

I thought something looked funny about it. Lol 10:30itus kicked in as it was a slow morning and skim reading results in looking like a d1ck.

All good about the 33s though will definately let you know when we head to woodhill next or any local tracks.
(was meant to be this weekend but flying to palmy to get the new car so maybe in a few weeks).

Sweet sounds great-would be keen to get out on some local tracks! Are you in with the Whangarei 4wd club? Been thinking about joining up but just havn't got around to it yet.
Wont get the new tyres untill Easter weekend, We're heading down to Turangi for the weekend and picking the tyres&rims up in Taupo on the way through - hoping like hell the rims will go straight on without to much stuffing around - they came off a Safari. Dont like our chance of getting 4x 33's in the back with a long weekends worth of gear!!

Are the 33's mounted on steel rims?

If you are currentley running the standard pajero alloys you will need new wheel nuts, the pajero nuts do not have a large enough taper for steel rims.
