Q78 Super Swampers VS Mt-117 Silverstones
Hi I am looking for opinions on super swamper vs silverstones. I have silverstones on now and I am thinking of buying some super swampers. Reason is there at a good price and need the extra size. Because there on a Safari and mainly for west coast tracks lots of mud, Loved the silverstones but would like more diff clarence. Have'nt heard much about the super swampers except good on sidlings, and mud. Would like to hear others thoughts on the SS.

Personally I prefer Silverstone's. What size Swampers are they? I have seen them both before on the same tracks and same type of trucks (Hiluxs) and Swampers have gone no where compeered to Silverstone's, they also clean them selves better because of the larger lug spacing. But that's just my opinion, swampers may work better on different terrain. Just the terrain here Silverstone seam to be better.

only time ive seen swampers work good is after they have been cut hard them they were the sh-t
unless the TSLs are going to be a shit load taller then stay with the Stones

there was a guy in panmure that was looking at bringing in 37s x12.5 in the Stones as well ran out of budget to push him along would be nice to have a lookcee at those

Are you sure they were silverstones? That would be interesting!
I know Fedima make a 37 (or at least used too) - they are another Simex look-a-like, but they don't look as though their tread is as aggressive as the simex.

Thanks for the replys good too hear as I have not heard much about the super swampers and have no experience with them. The super swampers were 35s 35.5x10.5x 15 actual size . Sounds like i'll be better off sticking with the silverstones. I heard silverstone don't do any bigger? Its a shame.

I know Silverstone was going to make new moulds as there 35 inch tyres where alittle small. I think the new ones arriving soon are from the new moulds
I'm thinking of up grading to a new set soon.

I have had swampers and now have silverstones. swampers were crossply and very heavy. probably tougher than silverstones. sivertstones are radials. swamper center tread is more closed than silverstones so i feel they get less grip there. stay with the silverstones. simex will get you more height but are heavy and expensive

each to their own but i'd go swampers. had few sets really liked them. got mt117's on at the mo cos they were free

Apparently the 16" silverstones are bigger than the 15"

my mate has a set of new 35" MT117 which are at least an intaller than my new Trepadores on 10" rims

Silverstone MT117 Extreme is bias/cross ply, weighs approx 34kg. They're pretty tough tyres (same as Simex) but not as strong side walls as most Swampers. Silverstone are best by far where you need penetrating digging, grip on slippery surface like wet grass and wet clay.
Swamper have a huge variety of tread patterns. Most TSL designs have fairly large centre blocks which greatly reduce digging. Makes them not so good on slippery wet grass and wet clay. They can work better on softer surfaces because they don't dig as much, ie grip without penetrating the surface as much.
If you look at the TSL IROK radial the tread blocks are quite small and spaced out like the Silverstone, the centre lugs are rectangular and a bit bigger than Simex and the carcass isn't as rounded as Silverstone and Simex so should provide good surface penetrating grip without digging big holes in soft terrain.
We used Silverstone MT117 extreme on the cruiser before selling it. We've recently used both Simex and Swamper TSL SX on the Nissan during track setting. One week the swampers had a big advantage and the next week were at a disadvantage, Keri was on Simex. Each has its strong points so comes down to what the terrain is like on the day.

great explanation! Is there any rumor of silverstone doing a bigger tyre or as mention a true 35"?

the Q78 being quite narrow(10.
has a smaller center section than some of the wider models with the same size outter lugs(I think it would dig better than most super swampers,but hard to compair with the ditch digging silver stones.
like Warren says depends on the turf being used.
there was some Q78 Floating round a while back for a very good price,If I had the coin I would have grabbed them.
