PRS radios can be a godsend.

Post by wjw »

Well today, I fitted my shiney new snorkel, PRS radio, 2 handheld PRS's & Hankook muddies :D

Truck looks really good now.... lucky I had the Radios tho.... gave one to a mate to test... so we've been playing all day with them. When we finished fitting the tyres this evening (7ish) I thought I better test them and my new snorkel. So headed up to the Cardrona River.

First of all I nearly rolled trying to drive over a vertical bank.... but managed that... just. Then decided to drive upstream, which was all good... untill I tried going up another bank from the water side. Got stuck about 3ft from the bank, upto the middle of the doors in water and going nowhere. So I thought ok, well Greg said he'd pop down & tow me out if I got stuck. So climbed outta the window, (Trying to keep dry) and got onto the bank. Tried calling him, no mobile reception. So as he was the guy I lent the radio too, tried him on that... all good, got hold of him and he headed down. Meantime I hooked up ropes etc, so he could get me out. And he did, although I lost a mudflap and bent my front number plate so it was horizontal. :D

Not bad for an evenings work.... I suggest anyone thinking of going into the middle of nowhere or anywhere with no cell reception, organises someone to come help if they get stuck. It would have been a half hour walk to get cell reception...

Shame I didn't have my camera :(

PS: Whats best to seal the top of the air filter? I was thinking of smearing vaseline all round....
