PM fisho ...he will be able to tell you the exact location & also the current situation at Moa bones...if you do want to do track clearing you will need as minimum equipment ...winch & chainsaw.

Re: west coast track info?
How big are the trees? Is a 20" bar sufficient or do we need to go bigger? Cheers

we had 18inch bar and had to cut alot of it from both sides.
Re: west coast track info?
Not a lot of cutting left to do,20inch bar would be fine.May have to cut a couple from both sides but that would be all. Bigest job is removing cut stuff from track.Nth cantrbury club guys have made a big effort on this track, u have to see the amount off timber that has been cut and shifted to apreciate the size of the job.
cheers flag.

Re: west coast track info?
My saw has a 20" bar and its been fine, although as flag said have had to cut from both sides a few times. But the guys who have had lots of experience with it and certainly quick, eh fitzy

Ha, Ha, Bill, I think your saw is a bit bigger than most saws carried in 4WD's and has the power to run a 20" bar and it is the right colour and the name starts with S . Now on the day Bill is referring to he did the unthinkable
he lent his chainsaw
remember the old saying there are two things in life you don't lend
your chainsaw and your Wife
, because they will both come back Faaaaaaked

Mt Greenland- Ross
Tailings -10 min south of westport
Moa bones- Seddonville.
Pm me if you want better directions. All tracks I would recommend mt tyres, winch, recovery gear. at least another truck.
Better suited tracks for starters is Big River, Napolean Hill, Cock eye creek, No Name Rd, Denniston, Waitahu River rd.

Re: west coast track info?
cheers..
went hunting with a mate into vic forest, went down the sweet little track in my old proceed.
mustv been atleast 20-25km in..
had some culvert washouts that were repaired with cut down logs...no idea how old the logs were,it was atleast 2m into the water below them..
just had to hold on and close ya eyes...
got to the end of that track to a clearing then saw another track we went up,was quite boggy with deep ruts.
crossmembers were hard on it,just had to keep the gas up it,then it got way to gnarly so we turned around in a little side clearing only just big enough for the truck to back into...
was enough to give me a hunger for more...
wouldve been better with muds...
didnt actually shoot anything either....

Re: west coast track info?
mt greenland had changed a crap load since that trip a few years back now, so much gorse you can hardly see the track in places! wash out would be easly drivable with an hour or so on the spade, hopfly make it back before it gets to wet for a mish to the top
