At near on $600 bucks to rego your trucks it's still damn near worth the risk.
The days of having two or three vehicle at home all rego'd are gone now.

yep, it should be relative to the use of the vehicle. my Lux spends as much time off the tarseal as on it but expected to pay the same as a road car etc. thats the bit that pisses me off.
Waiter...there is a drought in my glass.

good point, why cant they do a low milage rego for seldom used vehicles?
you can do it for insurance after all. I guess they don't do it because it would cost money to administer and the would get less. Don't forget the government aint out to help us

Re: Demerit points hiked for unlicensed cars
its ridiculous aye!!!
My dads registration and mine arrived in the mail the other day.
My Dads vehicle is a 1992 Toyota Landcruiser VX 80 Series, 4.2L turbo diesel, probably around the 2.5-3 tonnes in weight and his rego is around $400
Mine arrived the next day. I've got a 2002 Mazda Bounty 4wd Double Cab Ute, 2.5L turbo diesel, probably under 2 tonnes and my rego is around $600 a year.
Can anyone clear this up?? Why is it so much more to Register mine?? I mean is it because mines a ute therefore can carry goods?? If so, I think it'd be cheaper to buy a normal 4wd and a trailer......

Because your dad's is a private passenger car whereas yours is a goods utility. I guess they're expecting you to be using yours for work and doing more k's, carrying heavier loads?
Still cheaper than aussie though, over here My V8 commodore is just over $1000 a year, and my motorbike is the same. Let's hope NZ doesn't bring in the same rules, over here it gets calculated by engine size, no. of cylinders, and no. of seats.
