1Kz-te 90s A/T Prado Motor into a 1Kz-te 70s A/T Prado

Post by oldblue »

Like to hear from someone that has actualy done this transplant.
I know that the sump needs changeing over, the bonet needs a hole cutting in it for the intercooler.
Does the ECU on the 70s motor work with the 90s motor?

Hi Kev, sorry don't get your hopes up, I'm not able to answer your question. I wonder if anyone has actually done this conversion ?. Do you want to do it ??. My observations tell me there is not a lot of difference, like you say maybe change some external bits over, as for the EFI and computer I am way to old for all that hocus pocus witch doctor stuff. May be a phone call to Rick at 4WD Accessories CHCH or Nathan at Kaiapoi Repowers, I think that is the name of Nathans firm, I know Nathan and his dad have done a lot of work with 1KZ's. Good luck and give me a call if you want me do do any thing from this end.

FITZY.

I haven't done it, but considering the version numbers on the ECU's are different and I know a 90's ECU doesnt work on a 70, I'm sure you will need the correct one. Also an auto ECU wont work on a manual wiring loom on a 70 series....

Maybe give Leithfield a call Kevin.

I know his surf had a 1KZ motor out of a 78series in it cos I saw that one. The 78 used to belong to a mate before his GF crashed it.
After Kevin (Lf) fried that one, he got a motor and intercooler off a 90 series.

So he should have resolved some of the issues that you have.
Rick at 4wd Accessories may have done the change over for him, I'm not sure.

Im sure will need need the ECU to match the Motor & Trans. You may also need to use the same loom.
The gear change ponts are usually different for diff autos, ie Petrol motor & diesel motor )often there are diff ratio gear in auto & different valving so they change at diff revs.
Not sure these factors will effect you put do some good research before doing anything
