Spot lights...

Post by D1HARD »

Hey people I am looking at upgrading my crap fog lamps for a decent set of spotlights.

And I was interested to hear of any good stories, or horror stories as the case may be of the various brands.

Good and bad mounting locations....

What to look for and what to avoid....any info appreciated...thanks in advance... :D

Have got a set of Hella Rallye 4000's. Bloody brillient lights and the mountings on them are indestructable!

Not cheap lights though!

I use $25 supercheap ones. They seem to work alright. I am going to use some of those household halogens though. 4 on the front along with the original headlights should work well. Also one on the back as a reversing light.

I must say I agree with wopass the light force are brilliant for night shooting and yes 270 or 3006 (my baby  ) doesn’t leave much behind, especially when firing 100gn hollow points  . between my friends we have 5 and they are great. Also have a few mates in oz who swear buy them for vehicle spotties. They're not cheap tho.
I just use cheapish housings off trademe and put 120w halogen bulbs in them. Lights up fairly well just doesn’t quite get the same 1km effect as the light force ones.

now this is weird... im also using a lightforce spot light for hunting and blasting the beasts with a .270. As far as the light is concerned..... I would buy another one, although i would probably buy a 170 not a 240 (have used both and i cant tell the difference between the 2 (and yes they both have the same 100w bulb). they are both extremely good!!!

If you can afford HID's........... go for them! either Lightforce or Hella ones.

I agree light force spotlights are awesome compared with other brands (in terms of night shooting lights). If the driving lights are as good id go for them if they werent too pricy.

Sounds like theres a few hunters on this forum too - you boys should bring your .270 and .30-06 down to queenstown plenty of animals here but you might struggle to get one with my.270wsm flying around - fast and awesome hitting power!! hard to kep up with though

Had Grant and the team hook up the "LIghtforce" spots to the front and SHIT!! they are unbeleivable... its like having x2 searchlights attached to the front of your truck.

Very impressive...and I am sure I can frazzle some Possums with these babys...then crack them down with the SSG...

.303 jungle carbine 180grain projectile vs 1 hare. It left jst a small hole in it!!

I want a .270 but to many other things to buy.
Yeh lightforce r good and specially wireless ones cause i've had enough of those bloody chinese ones that spend all day charging then hardly last 5mins on the battery!! If u go 4 a cirgarette lighter one u can use a small jumperpack in a backpack

Anyway there seems to be a few cheap sets of spotlights for ur truk on trademe, and if you can get them of a wreaked truk theyll be cheap!

They dont look like much but they sure do the trick..
I had a good look at zigen's $40 Repco small square ones and in a row they are pretty good at flooding an area with light, great value...

But the Lightforce's have to be the most powerful I have seen this far.In my limited experience..ha ha

Yes I am heading to Steel and Tube this week to see what sort of magic they can work in concocting me a half decent bull bar,at a good price, remove the bumper and fix the spots to the new bar.

Can but try.... :D

I run a set of wide beam spots on the bullbar and a set of pencils on the roofrack. Realy turn nite into day. Can run seperately as well. Got a wide beam on the rope holder on the back as a work lite.

Check the Worselys spur thread from a couple of weeks ago. There is a photo of me coming up over a rise that gives you a good look.
