ZJ transmission rough ??

Just looked at a ZJ and test driven, the trans seems a little jumping into some gears, not sure how to describe it , but feels agricultural compared to my fairmont..what to look out for as far as trans on its way out or just needs a decent flush, has 164ks on clock

Mine was horrid in reverse, you'd crawl under duress and then it would jump in and be away. I had it flushed (properly) and its been totally fine since (about 10,000km ago) It had done 300k+

managed to sort it out, kickdown cable was far to tight making it snatch into 3rd gear...loosened it off a bit now its sweet, did not buy that zj as it had rooted shocks ( new wof) rooted tyres (again new wof) steering wheel had all the leather peeling off and the roof lining was 6 inches lower than normal (sagging) not a nice example...now looking around for another...found 2 in welly and 1 in auckland to look at
