Recommendations for Snow Trips in Canty

Post by wjw »

Hi All,

Looking for ideas for winter snow trips around Canterbury, or at least places where I could run a day trip out of Christchurch.

Thanks,

Bill

Heading from Hanmer up the hill towards Molesworth Station is tame but a good trip.

I think there may be another godley trip in the pipeline this winter.
Toyota Landcruiser FJ40, front and rear lockers, 35" simex.
Toyota FJ45 build in progress.
Tires are like boobs, they always look big until you have played with them for a while, then you just want a bigger set.

Lees valey and Okuku pass are always good in the snow. Worsleys is a good hard run in the snow. Can't beat a weekend trip into Godley glacier and MacCauley Hut Bill. Also dirt roads around Banks penisular are good after a dump of snow. Shit I miss the snow, only getting down to 16* here minium at the moment. Still wearing shorts and singlet.

Hanmer is also good. Clubs usually do a snow trip that way every year. As the last trip with me up the Godley Bill, not my fault you drive a dodgy toymota  But saying that, your lastest toymota is better then the last. Just go to MacCauley hut.

Going to the next north canty meeting to maybe join, I guess they might have a snow trip

It wasnt the truck that was the problem it was the gale force winds blowing the wall of the tent across her face ;-)

Poulter River isn't a bad spot.

Yeah I'm keen to head to Godley again and will throw something up in the next few weeks.
Looking at about 10-12 trucks max again and maybe another track or two while we're down there depending on peoples time constraints. Have to do a bit more digging on what is around first though.

Will probably be in July rather than August as we waited for Al to show us all the way last year (cheers Al). Was thinking of just an 'up and go' when some snow hits kind of trip but I think it would stop a lot of people being able to come due to work and family so we'll see.

Stumbled up to Lake Tennyson last year for a bit of a gander. Really awesome place. Would be a good spot for an overnight.
