Bighorn tires

Post by darksky »

Hi all, im new to 4x4 and have just aquired a 1993 Isuzu Bighorn, however the tires need to be replaced soon and Iwant some beefier ones,
I need sum that are good in the mud, sand and on the road and are cheap. now I realize these dont exist so could you guys suggest a good comprimise? and also sizes ie. 31*10.5 ect.

it has the standard 16" alloys but would tires be cheaper if i got some 15" steelies?

Thanks in advance

Welcome to off road express mate.
There has been lots of discussion about tyres on here of late, BF Goodrich and Goodyear seem to be the most popular on-road off-road tyres here.
Have a look at http://www.4wdbits.co.nz/ProductsListPrice.aspx?CategoryID=5&selection=7 for a comparison of tyre sizes and price.
Lots of guys seem to be happy with Goodyear Wrangler Mud Terrain tyres for mud, sand and on-road.

These MTR's everyone is talking about seem to be the go for the all round tyre. I think I will be after a set of these in the near future. What size to go for, now that is another issue

thanks for your replys.

4WDbits your website is the best, its where ive been doing all my comparos. good prices too.
How much Kms on the road could you expect from Mtrs? From what ive read on here 90-100k from BFG A/Ts, and my local hunting and fishing guy swears buy BFG M/T and gets 60k out of them.
from what i read 15" tires are heaps cheaper, and steel rims are the one for off roading so ill look into them.
Would 31*10.5 be good off road or should I pay extra for taller tires??
and finally wots the tallest tire i can fit on a standard bighorn?

thanks again

p.s anyone want to buy a drift car?? 210rwkw r32??

31's are ok, but don't know if you'll get 32's on without a lift. I ran 33's on my old 92 Bighorn, then went down to 32's.

Tyre wear depends a lot on driving style, pressures run etc.
I've had my MTR's on for around 10k now, and while they seem to wear quicker than other brands I've tried, I will be sticking with them when I go to 35's.
