Which Air Cleaner for a Holley Carb Snorkel setup?

Post by MNC »

Interested to hear what sealed Air Cleaners people have used or would recommend on their snorkel setups.

I need something that would mount on a Holley Carby and has a single circular air feed diameter of 3" (or is able to be cut open to 3").

Cheers,

my 40 series has got an enclosed aircleaner with a 12 x 3 1/2 inch filter ducted back through the firewall and takes air from inside the cab, the aircleaner lid has good clips and clamps down pretty tight, its awesome to keep the filter clean in mud but I wouldnt trust it submerged under water

My flatdeck I used to mostly just run a 14 inch k&n filter with a foam prefilter, it worked well and let the engine breath but was shit in mud and water, some people set up tight fitting shrouds under the bonnet that encloses the aircleaner when the bonnet is closed and draw air down through the bonnet scoop.

When I was going to be in mud or deepish water I'd hook it back up to the standard cruiser aircleaner and snorkle, that setup was well sealed and worked well in mud and water, the trucks half way through an engine transplant to a later model injected engine so I dont know how we're going to set up the air intake yet?

Yeah, that looks like it would do the job. I'm after something ready to go... might be a bit lazy but the less mods I have to do the sooner I'm out in the mud.

I'm actually wondering if a single 3" snorkel will get enough air to my 4.2ltr straight 6 2F landcruiser engine...

Your twin snorkels with be sweet - guy in our club has done that and it works a treat on his 350 chev (looks good too).

There was a guy on the surf forum that made up a small box in the engine bay and put a panel filter, had a 304 motor and didn't take up much room in the bay and he reckoned the air flow was perfect. Tried to look but couldn't find it.

dunno what it came out of it would have been some old american car, that jegs link wop put up would be worth having a good look through. The other setup I always liked was petefj40s pod filter in an enclosed box hooked up to his snorkel

Just did a trial run to check out shipping costs - USD158 for shipping alone  Will give that a miss.

Was no other option for surface freight :(

A single 3" snorkel will be more than enough, depending on the aircleaner setup and how its made.
Toyota Landcruiser FJ40, front and rear lockers, 35" simex.
Toyota FJ45 build in progress.
Tires are like boobs, they always look big until you have played with them for a while, then you just want a bigger set.
