GOD Winch ???

Post by kbushnz »

Hi Yah All
With some chatter about GOD winches and seeing a "variant" in action on the weekend I thought I would start a thread.
Did a bit of Google searching and found this
http://kenfoto.multiply.com/photos/albu ... _PTO_winch
Image

Uses a 90 series Prado front diff....

The one on the weekend used a Toyota ADD front diff..

So what really is a GOD winch. :?:

Dear all,

We would like to offering "God" Winch PTO, made in Malaysia where all the winch parts are new fabricate and it can suit any 4x4 vehicle.

The dimension is based on Toyota BJ40 winch design.

The overall size is Length 20" x width 13", 40% faster than OEM PTO Winch and conventional electric winch and can be loaded 30% more wires and has been proved in Rainforest Challenge 2005.

It is selling USD 1500 FOB Jakarta, Indonesia, we can send the photos to whom interest.

cheese's winch (the one at the comp) uses a 185 surf diff, I thought they were the same as a 90 prado ? yet they look nothing the same going by the picture above? unless that ones been modified a fair bit.

I consider a GOD winch to be any winch that uses a diff as the angle drive/reduction unit, ie not a worm drive like a standard PTO.

Mark.

Thanks Mark, we were jacks of all trades over the weekend, Marshals, Film crew recovery vehicle, Chef, Almost a saucy model with Jack. (But that's a different story)

There was a brake mechanism...And it also ratchets.
It was scrutinised and passed.
To be honest (in my eyes  ) it had too many interlocks which made operation awkward. But I am sure the bugs will be worked out soon...
It reminded me of one of those toys where you pulled the string and let it go.

If the definition of a god winch is when it pulls it make you go "god", then that one qualifies
When I saw it go, the truck planed across the mud, and then it hit second gear :!: :!:   WTF 8) 8)
Will be taking a closer look at this one :P

The Brake on it is very simular to that on a 8274 it has a ratcheting system that has to be manually unlocked, its main down fall at the comp .It would winch through the hazard but couldnt be unlocked or free spooled while under tension and wont power out so was just left hanging on the rope .They have a plan to sort that ,will be interested to see how it works when you have to winch and drive slowly over a tecnical stage my guess is it wont" :?

Excellent Video, Well done ! And its real time...... Man it was fast, Thanks for sharing more info on the winch.
It may become the next standard for competition trucks.
Well at least for the long winches....

it's good to share :-) still have a few moods for the truck that will make it work better, a combination of me and Johno putting our heads together.
Wait to you see whats in my garage, it's the next step up in winch's again. Can't wait to get my driving and the team work up to the same standard as the top guy's and really compete.

just wondering how the brake works on an electric winch and if it could b adapted 4 the god winch and another idea is my starter motor has wot appears 2 be a one way bearing that drives the gears but when motor starts it spins freely could b made bigger and used as a brake

I think you will find a one way bearing will replicate what seemd to be the biggest issue with the above winch, you need to be able to back it out under load. There are times when you winch up and need to reset or find that your not quite set right and need to quietly back it off. The current arrangement does not allow for that and nor would a one way bearing. Idea is mint but needs fine tuning.

What about driving it with hydraulics, motor may act as a brake and you get forward and reverse.

that becomes a hydralic winch, hundreds of gear box ratios for that

Not really may be ok with the right motor, hydraulic winches run less ratios than electric.

all the winching in that vid was winch only, he can winch and drive but most times theres no need. Why drive when you can winch that fast!!

Because when you come to a ledge, if the wheels aren't driven you will tear the truck apart or break the winch. Get a front wheel behind a ledge or have to winch over the brow of a hill and no drive to the wheels will not work.

Obviously in that situation he would winch and drive

You didn't see the part where he pulled out of a ditch so fast the front wheels both came of the ground (winching only, and it wasn't in the vid)

The mounts are in the truck for the second winch - superwinch EP9.0 :D we just didn't have time to finish the install. Like the main winch, it's a bit different to the normal set up, which is why no one noticed it. The truck will winch at dead slow for tricky rock sections if we want, or stupidly fast, all on the main winch. As Darin points out, you don't want to just winch your front wheels off on a ledge, dahhh.....
Next comp we will have most of the bugs sorted.
Every body who PM's me about the build and ask's for photo's,etc, sorry. It's not top secret, but don't want a bunch of pic's all over the web until it's working correctly. come check it out at the next comp.
There are a lot of other clever ideas out there also in some of the other trucks.
Better yet, build a truck and have a go, didn't cost to much and every body to do with sport was great!

NOBDY wrote: didn't cost to much

This is the single biggest reason why this is a good idea. Power is power and what this winch does can be done with hydraulic with better control. It might take a custom built winch to achieve it but the control would be far better, however add a zero to the cost of this winch would be a starting point for a hydraulic with the same power and speed.

Also don't get too carried away as at the Supwerwinch the truck that was a long way in front of everyone else was running an electric winch and the whole truck cost less than what some have spent on their winches!

When setting tracks it is pretty easy to take the 'big winch' advantage out of the equation. We are talking winch challenge not winch racing after all.

But saying that, for the cost this thing is amazing!
