94 and 95 cherokee engine difference?

Post by sharktale »

Hey all.

It might be a stupid Q but are the any differences between the 95 and a 94 cherokee motors?

I've blown the motor in my 94 cherokee and i'v sourced a replacement engine from a 95.

Did ya end up getting one? I have one sitting down in Cambridge you can have for a box of piss or two. It has done 310,000k when I parked her up a couple of years ago. You will need to bring an engine hoist down with ya, the rest of the Jeep is stripped so wouldn't take long to pull, I'll be happy to give you a hand if you need.

Ohh and how did you manage to blow one up, these things are pretty much bullet proof...

Hey sorry guys i forgot my log in password haha.

Umm well i'v got the new engine fitted and she sounds good! Im fronted with a new problem and that'll be the power steering pump. I got a second hand one couried from some wreckers place down the Waikato and that one turned up with Fecked bearings and a wobbly wheel so i'll be ring them first thing Tue, really dissappointing really, because i had planned a day out at woodhill and Muriwai!

"coop" i got a bit adventures in the puddles and tried a slightly deeper one :D bent ......no snapped a conrod ......ooooops haha

Any one selling a straight power steering pump? would like urgent.

Well iv got yet another problem, After fitting the new power steering pump i took it for a ride up the road and i noticed the oil pressure, water temp and volt gauges weren't working and the "check engine" light was on, she coughed once and died all together. Upon restarting it cranked and cranked for 30 odd seconds (on and off) and finally started and ran fine and ideled nice when i got back but the gauges still weren't working.

I really want this thing going again big time i miss her hahah.

If any one can shead some light id really appreciate it!

None of them have the 8 pulleys like mine.....weird, would having the belt on the wrong way around the alternator have some thing to do with the gauges playing up?
My main concern is which way it goes around the water pump.

Did it smoke when it started up again?

If not, it could be a fueling problem...?

"Its a jeep thing" im still trying to come to terms with it haha.

Aircon and power steering sorted now

Took it out for a jam in the mudd last saturday, water temp still not working after new sensor, check engine light still on and it still cuts out periodically and is a bitch to get started again!

AND the calipers are stuck on........like seized, won't release don't no if its calipers, master cylinder or some thing else.

Might put a cover over it and put it on the back burner, really starting to piss me off!

I had a problem where my jeep would just stop with no warning, and would take about 15 minutes to re-start. Turns out it was the Crank Shaft Position Sensor which is positioned near the top of the flywheel close to where the exhaust passes. They can get quite sensitive to heat over time, and won't let you start until they have cooled down. I bought one in from the US, a good sight cheaper than locally sourced, made all the difference and hasn't been a problem since.
I also ended up replacing the front O2 sensor, that also made a huge difference.

Do a search on http://www.naxja.org/forum for CPS, there is lots of information

The Jeep XJ has what they call phenolic brake pistons, a sort of plastic which once heated up are very reluctant to return to their original size. I ended up driving home one day from a trip in the Akatarawas with smoke pouring out the back from the brakes due to the same problem you describe. YOu can buy replacement calipers with steel pistons to replace.

Good time to get in some parts from the US with the current exchange rate.

Good luck

Well i finally got her out over the weekend and it ran pretty good, didn't over heat or cut out. Went for a run up the dunes at Muriwai Beach and found a little track on the way home. It idles a bit high when hot, thats the only thing left to sort out and she'll be 100% again.

Looking good there sharktale where in Auckland are you? Muriwai beach and Jeeps don't go down to well with me, my old XJ boiled the water out about 15km from Rimmer Rd access, so it was either leave her for the tide or drive her home hot, she was in the red for about 15 minutes under hard load in soft sand, she was as good as day one the following week towing 2 tonne lol.

My mate in his XJ and myself in a ZJ are going up Thompsons track this coming Monday if you are interested in coming along cheers.
