Was it actually running before you put it in :?: Timing out, or a shagged dissy could give you the same sort of probs..... :?

yip i did some testing before I took the engine out and the motor ran good. 70kmhr in 1st at a guess. there was no speedo so was hard to tell..

If you want any bits to test, you can borrow off mine, computer air flow etc, I know they work and it is just sitting in the shed for now... 1995 3.9 serpentine belt same as yours.

Thanks Glen,

It could be handy plugging in a different computer. You never know with that old loom something might have got fried in there...

If your up this way cruise over and see if you have any ideas of what might be wrong...

Theres nothing like making more work for yourself :roll:

Have purchased a megasquirt II in kitset form (you have to solder components on a board and build it up yourself)

Two Wide band oxygen sensors for self tuning and these are also connected to air fuel ratio gauges so I can see what the mixture is doing as a drive around

This system will do away with the FARKN AIR FLOW METER AND BLACK BOX ECU :twisted:

And any time its not behaving I can plug in a laptop myself to get an idea of whats wrong.

Plus I went megasquirt way just because I would learn a bit about injection and tuning compared to link.

Steel for deck is arriving tomorrow

Have arranged to get the main rollbar hoop bent up at work next week. Thinking 2&1/2" diameter but what thickness should I be going for?

FJ40 Radiator is arriving this weekend

Remote mount oil filter has arrived but needs some right angle hydraulic fittings

Best of all iv taken two weeks off work from friday to get some LR building done

I just took the plunge and purchased online. Was $1150 + GST NZ so not cheep. I talked to a sales person about what I required before I went for it they were quite helpful. The Rover has a dizy so I only need to program up fuel simplifying things a bit.

I got two wide band O2 sensors which are $200 each american :shock: so thats were over half the cost came in. But because you can tune it yourself with them its pretty cheep dyno time I figured.

I think for that amount I'd try to find something else and possible cheaper too..
But I did like the idea of making it yourself..
Good luck with that and I'm going to follow how this turns out..

After some welding and grinding I have something which resembles a flatdeck.

Main hoop is 3mm thick 60mm OD bent to suit. End up to wide so had to narrow it by cutting and welding it in the middle which was bit of a bugger but looks good now and is still pretty strong

Should I put a cross brace in? I might enter it in the odd mudplug for fun but that's probably all.

most definitly.. be a lot stronger and will take a big roll over as to what is there now.. not so big.. :|

Rite Im still working on ideas for the cross brace and reacon I need some smaller pipe. Will hopefully have it sorted by tomorrow.

In the meantime I got the sides for the deck done.

slightly smaller pipe would be a nice touch on the cross brace in the hoop.. not too much smaller though yeah? coolies..

but beware, i think in your rovers tray theres a stray head of cerberus watchin...

talked to the sales guy and to operate the air idle control valve I needed a megasquirt II. It come with the new processor.

It has the capability to deal with 21pound of boost :twisted:

Got a MONSTER of a battery. 730Cold Cranking Amps and finished up the battery box under the deck

And stained up the deck. Cross brace is in it just needs some plastic molded mudflaps and it'll be finished.

Not to be a wank, but I reckon your diagonal brace is no good, it needs to go to the footing of the hoop if its going to provide any strengthening of the structure :wink: :wink: :wink:

If you flop it on its side hard enough to bend the hoop, it will now bend at the point where you have welded it to the hoop. It needs to go right to the bottom of the hoop if you want the strength from it.

I was sure someone was going to say it :oops: Yea I did toy with the idea of it going right to the bottom as I know it would have been better but it would have been a prick to do.

Then I thought it goes to that 2x1 which runs horizontally so its braced to the other side.

There are also 50mm x 3mm gussets which join the main deck support, hoop and the 2x1 togeather strengthing the lower part seperately to the cross brace.

Im happy with what iv ended up with.

Megaquirt construction is coming along nicely to :D have been talking to it with the laptop already

Chur Kaney,

As requested here's some pics of the megasquirt. It doesn't really look like much.

The whole reason I brought it was to get rid of some of the unreliable and black box landy electronics such as the AFM and ECU.

The megasquirt uses air temperature and vacuum to do the same thing as the AFM. Both sensors are reasonably reliable and can be tested using a laptop.

Its currently in a half completed state. All tests so far have worked correctly.

Here is the test circuit which I also purchased from DIYAUTOTUNE. It plugs into the megasquirt to simulate sensor inputs etc. I have been using it to test functionality as I build it up using detailed steps on the megasquirt website.

By purchasing a "wide band" oxygen sensor, you can tune the MSII automatically. I think you set it up to make small changes at a time and if your happy you save the new settings, then do the process again. The oxy sensors I got also came with Air Fuel Ratio gauges which I can use to ensure both sides of the V8 are running sweetly (No stuffed injector). You only need one to tune the MSII but I liked the idea of easy fault finding in the future.

I have had a couple of hick ups, installed a diode in the wrong place and didn't install a resistor so got a weird voltage reading of 29V for a 9V battery :lol: but managed to sort it.

I have been finding it quite straight forward so far...

further to db's comments and like db, dont mean to sound like a kill joy, but the top of the cross brace should be to above your head too to protect ya fella... put another in to make a cross... :wink:

aside from that, ya makin some fine work.. lovin the battery box touch and the stained deck is coolies..
