D21 terrano buggered balljoint/bushes

Post by u13turbo »

mate took my truck in for a wheel alignment yesterday(i been to busy at work) and the guy aligned it all but then said the balljoints are all buggered and it hasnt worked, luckily he didnt charge me at all, Im guessing it is just the tie rod balljoints as i have just put a new draglink in and they are/should be perfectly fine.

i was wondering if there is a kit to buy? or if i just have to get new tie rods?

While i was recoating my rims i had the wheel off, found that the idler arm has a little bit of play, does that mean new arm or just bushes??

Day of problem finding, Found my inner cv boot is ripped into 2 peices, isnt clicking so mighta got it in time hopefully.

you'll have to buy tie rods, pretty sure the come seperately and if idler has play replace it with a new one, easier to buy a whole unit.

your lucky my new work deals in suspension so txt me next week and remind me to price up the stuff for ya otherwise i will forget.

Righto cheers hamish, The guy at wheel alignment place said he would get it all sorted with wheel alignment for $100..? I'll have to give him a ring and see exactly what he would replace to 'fix it'

if it was me mate i'b be doing both tie rod end ball joints, the inner ball joints and the idler arm that way you know the condition of them all and that the w/a will be perfect and true and if you cut corners and replace half of them and if the other ones crap out in a month then you have to get ya w/a done again and replace more parts. do it once do it properly. short cuts may save you money in the short term but long term cost you more.

if you arent going to replace the worn parts then to be honest with ya there is no point aligning it waste of time for you and the alignment dude. you wont get a true reading or true adjustments

Try to get greasable ball joints if you can, that way you can give em a squirt of grease every now and then.
Watching with interest.
Ok people, move along. Nothing to see here. Thank you, move along.

did you do the lower rear control arm bushes at the same time?
D21 are knowen for wearing these out, causing a bad wheel alignment. They are about $35 from autoline
