I think the track has been closed for the winter following the wet weather we've been having??

The phone number to check if still open is 027 5242132.
I think you will find it has been closed for the winter.

Re: WIRES ROAD 7/05/2011
well we are going to be heading to the tairua river then head back, its really an intermediate trip, last time we went there we took two hilux surfs and a double cab hilux , surfs on 32" mud tires and dbl cab on 31 all terrains, only managed to get stuck a few time trying some of the harder stuff but all our trucks are semi shinys , we didnt mind a few scratches but werent looking to winch (coz we didnt have one) or roll our trucks for fun

Should be ok for the 105 on Maratoto track itself, but I wouldn't go near the Wires Loop Track. It is a panel killer on trucks with exo-cages

With the new work done on the track earlier in the season it should be a easy drive. Haven't seen the improvements for myself though.
Cheers,
PS, Don't forget to pay the fees in the honesty box before you cross the ford

Re: WIRES ROAD 7/05/2011
yes definately a killer track as soon as u try the wires loop, we started to attempt it in anti closckwise last time and quit after bend idler arm, blown front diff and popped tire off the bead, while tire was pumping up , we wen tfor a wander to see what we wer gna get ourselfs into, VERY GLAD we didnt make it over that crest or we wouldve never gotten out, VERY VERY VERY KNARLY track
Re: WIRES ROAD 7/05/2011
after all this rain it could be a mission getting up from the river to the highest point with out a winch. good luck.

Re: WIRES ROAD 7/05/2011
I think Mudlva will be just fine
Especially as he has been recently reported as doing the wires loop in under 3 hrs

Re: WIRES ROAD 7/05/2011
hay Vince did you make it to maratoto
thomos was a bit tame ah
had lunch back up at the trig the fog had completely gone, what a view
we had a laugh on the other side until we were holted by a creek that has washed a third of the track out. oh well sh-t happens ah
had a look on the left side on the way back down, there was a loop track that has disappeared last year, its still missing

Re: WIRES ROAD 7/05/2011
yea pitty about the fog thomos wasnt as ruff as i thought it would be on the 'good' side, went up to the river hutt then had a feed then headed back down, thanks for showin us round maratoto was quite a bit rougher and we had a go through a couple of bogs and got stuck a few times haha
right at the start of maratoto theres a rock that you have to put two wheels up on to carry on through , any way the dirt on the other side of that rock (now washed away mud and what your other wheels have to be on) , well on the way back there was quite a near miss of headin over the cliff, effen scary shit i tell ya
only two damaged things on our trucks, i got an average sized dent in my rear quarter and mate got another dent under his tail light, pretty good day to be had by all,
thanks again
