Depends if you want to sell it or relist it for 6 months lowering your price every month til it gets back down to 4500?

I'm sure you understand how a market works, at 4500 you'd think it would sell quickly. If you are comparing it to other surf's on trademe, your comparing it to cars that have not sold. I doubt it will sell for 7000 as you can get the next generation model kzn185 for 7k. The "extras" probably reduce value as much as they increase it and the general condition is poor - needing mroe money spent to bring up to standard. Who do you know that will buy a near 20yr old surf for 7000 with the intention of spending more money on it. I'd expect a low km, immaculate one for 7k.

If bumping up the price to make you feel better about negoitating back down to ~4500 when someone turns up with cash then its a great price, but it will take a lot longer to sell if advertised at 7000. There are a lot of overpriced non selling older surfs on trademe.

Really? A KZN185 for $7k? Where? I think this model still sells generally for more then $4500, maybe not a lot more if it is in poor condition, but a reasonable one between $6 and $7k is still ok.

4500 is a good price for it to sell quickly, and I am surprised it hasn't sold yet, even with economy and christchurch problems. I would look at it if I were in the country as like most here on ORE I fancy my chances of it not staying to shiny so would not be awfully worried about the aesthetic conditions, yet I'm not most people.

Ill let you in on something that will strike you in the head as being ridiculously simple should you think about it, the ones for sale for 7k SELL! QUICKLY. You need to be checking in daily. They come up an they sell. Look on trademe there are ones on there for 10 - 9 - 8. They haven't sold yet. The ones that put up for sale for 6-7-8 depending on the condition sell quick.

Hence my point of if this particular surf gets put up for sale for 7k it will be a slow drawn out year of re listing and lowering the price, or dealing with people askign to swap it for a carolla on 19's etc. You on the other hand paying 9.5k for a KZN130 seems high and over priced or maybe you bought it 10 years ago, or at a dealers on finance etc. Have a look on trademe.........

Sorry to thread jack mate, but a kzn185 will normally have between 280-320,000 kms on the clock at the price you are quoting. A kzn130 at $6000 would have between 180,000 and 220,000km.

Taitan - Not sure how long you have been out of the country or if you know the current market.

I would think the reason the truck hasn't sold at the first price of 4.5k is more that the economy is down than a price issue, people are generally speaking just not buying, and perhaps not indulging in the toys, which buying a truck like this and turning it into a tough truck would make it.

Having said that, who knows, the market always decides. Personally I would market it at 6k Ono with about $500 flexibility in the price. As long as the cash is not urgently required, it will sell when the right person with cash sees it.

Good luck with the sale aroma.

Ok simple economics - supply goes up price goes down. though maybe your talking about a car yard? When you don't have any money and are buying on finance, a yards price will reflect those type of things. Maybe why you paid 9500 for your 20yr old surf? I see why you would be hesitant to advise someone trying to sell a similar surf to go with 4500, as it reduces the potential resale of yours, but don't live under a rock man! They just arent worth that much privately, when your buying a vehicle not a finance package......

Supply an demand, If there are 10 for sale for 5-6, not selling there is no point marketing it at 6 unless it is in great nick low k's etc. I'd stick with 4500 and it will be sold. I seriously doubt anyone in NZ would buy it for more than 5k.

Yeh, Ive been out of the country a bit, live in the middle of no where, but in the middle of no where when not working there's #### all to do but surf the net an get daily emails from trademe with 4wds of interest for sale. Surf's are actually worth a lot more here than NZ becasue same supply an demand, there are far fewer of them here, so even the 2LTE grenades are worth ~5k. More for a 1KZ powered one.

Have you looked on trademe lately?

Ok think you have me confused with the other guy who bought his surf for $9500 but let me set you straight on a couple of other things.

I didnt mention finance or buying from a dealer anywhere on here, all my quotes were trademe based. I dont borrow to buy vehicles, I use cash, thats an assumption on your part.

You did help make my point on supply and demand though (not that I need lessons on economics), the market is not good for anything at the moment, demand is low. Supply might be high but that is not an indicator or necessarily an incentive to sell at the bottom dollar to flick it quickly.

I check trademe more than once a day, in fact cheapest Surf KZN185 on trademe at present is $7,000:
http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motor ... 494126.htm

Note the kms - 306,000

Cheapest KZN130 Surf on Trademe at present $3,800:
http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motor ... 580322.htm

Note the kms - 283,000

So given the mileage of the one aroma wants to sell, I would think he could expect more money than the amount you are so adamant it is worth.

I am not trying to push up the resale value of my own vehicle, it would be naive to think one person could achieve that through a few comments on here. He asked what people thought it was worth, and people responded, based on their knowledge of what
4wds are worth here at the moment.

PS Show me a link to a KZN185 for $7,000 with less then 280,000kms on Trademe and I will concede your point.

Look I think a simple economics 101 might do you a world of favours.
Ill save you a google an really simplify it for you.

Great to know your personal opinion on your financial borrowings though.

Basing your theory of cars currently for sale "concedes the point"
KZN185's SELL when priced at 6-7 at >260000km. There arent 100 of them on trademe [NOT SELLING] becaseu they are overpriced like the KZN130s that dont sell and stay on trademe for over a year when priced at 7-8-9-10k

If the person wants to SELL then they will price it according to what the market is prepared to BUY for. When demand is Low, and supply is HIGH the price the market will pay is LOW.
Simplified concepts but think your still missing them.

An the cehapest kzn on trademe is 3k not 3800. Learn to search...

I stick with the guns that if the chap wants to sell then 4500 is a price i think currently the market will pay . if i were in a position and looking for one i'd throw out a 4k offer on it though.
