1kzte GAS MILEAGE

Post by vinceparts »

just wondering if my 350km to a tank ($90) in my kzn130 surf is bad or unusual?

its only got 32" mudstars , 4.1 diffs ,50mm body lift ,2 inch suspension and side steps, rear bumper and half front bumper removed

ive put my tire pressures up to 40 psi now so we'll see hoe much i get on this tank, worst thing is that i do 95.8km a day just to and from work, so 350 is 3/5 of a working week then i have my w.e ventures

First you need to find out if your speedo is actually accurate or not...if its not youll never really know what your doing ....im my surf which is basically identical to yours i get around 12.3 litres per 100KM .
Some surfs have slightly different tank sizes too ...so best way is to fill up till you cant put anymore in then ..drive till light comes on the take note of milage...average it out over a few tankfulls.

according to 2 gps units its bang on to the km even at 110 km/hr
hopefully tire pressures will do alot as they were all different, found one has a nail too, that sucks

Checked Snorkel for leaves or anything blocking the air going into engine.
Checked air filter is clean.
Checked fuel filter.
Ive got 32" KL71 on mine... i run mine at 37 on the road.

when i got mine new i was lucky to get 350km per tank and then i got the injectors done (used to blow black smoke) and then it got over 600km / tank (orig 29" tyres), now on 32" and 33" it gets around 450 - 500 open road. im happy with it at that.

I get 400-450km on open road, manual , 4.3 diffs and 33's

have found thats revs have a huge part to play in fuel consumpsion , any thing over 2600 rpm and it gazelles gas.
drive it with your foot up it and it drinks gas.

Come on Jerry! your xyz from 3/4 tank means as much to fuel consumption as me getting a box of beers on the way home an driving passed a gas station an having a look at the price of milk!
L per KM
KM per L
or the new fandangled Litres per 100KM

is what fuel consumption is measured by, not my commodore goes to rotovegas an back on half a tank....

Yep I agree it's using too much diesel, I got way better than that outta my old KZN130 surf on 33's, Just went to palmy and back in a comparable vehicle (3.1 Bighorn) there and Back from chch, (return trip with 2T weight) k's=1000, a tank and 3/4 fuel, $170.00, Bloody impressed
Take it to a reptable diesel mechanic and converse

wow thats good going for a bighorn at 1.64 per litre that of $170 diesel thats only 104 Litres meaning you got near on 10KM/L.....

did you fill it up before an after you left to get the $170?

and to add something of use to fuelly...

intercooled surf 1999 kzn185
12L/KM averaged over 45,000kms [81-127]
not nana'd around/ includes minor off roading and trailor towing
factory rims an tire size - speedo spot on or withing 3kmhr with a gps.
not bought for fuel economy - bought becasue surf ticked all the boxes.

1991 honda civic manual- 16-17km liter. averaged over 10000km -140-150 cheap run about 2nd car bought for economy!

work hiace van with new 1kd diesel engine does 13kmL but that gets thrashed. and occasionaaly left running for the odd hour or two once a week.

about 13L/100k, 90L tank, 2025kg, intercooled 1kzte, 4.1 diffs, stock tyres, 8 cupholders  , similar running gear and weight to a surf ... does the colour of the paint make a difference to economy

The bill was 170 total, I filled a Kaiapoi near Chch where I live, I drove to P North, picked up trailer and Vehicle 2Tweight, drove back to Waikanae, filled up $97, got home to Kaiapoi and still had 1/4 tank.
I was on my own, dead of night mostly (no traffic either way) and a daytime journey home in the sth isl with no traffic. oh and I drive properly (ex truck driver) which helps vastly, vehicle is driven in best POWER mode, not fastest speed mode
Of note the Surf 1KZ has far more power than an Isuzu Bighorn, that's a dual owner fact :o

My mate and I both have these 1kzte surfs. We were both worried about fuel economy but both get about 400-450km out of a tank. Both running 31's.

Have to say this is predominantly around town, not much open road so it does sound like you have an issue somewhere.

I get about 650kms for 72-75 litres in my shorty Prado. Depends on the aircon and roof rack.

Snorkle didnt seem to help figures at all.

   FAR OOOUUUTTT, my fuel economy really is up the shit,

i think i may buy some injector cleaner and a new fuel filter and go from there,

my car only puffs a tiny bit of black smoke on start up and under hard load up a hill with trailer you can just see a slight haze if u stare and the exhaust tip so im pretty sure injectors arent playing up but cant hurt to put sum cleaner through,

ive manged to make 3 inch dump pipe and half the exhaust done last night so hopefully when the full things done tonight itl improve economy a little and a teeny bit more power wouldnt go amiss

well after the diesel filter air filter and exhaust system im getting alot better milage, about 470km to the tank just gone, and that was with thompsons and maratoto in the mix so alot of on off hard throttle, should see better economy on road

wow huge difference. might be time to change that stuff on mine given that its probably cheaper to buy those bits than fill the tank at the moment

A friend of mine who works for Toyota was only getting 350 per tank out of his KZN130 so he bought a UZN130 because its more economical.
My 5L-T powered LN130 gets on average 525 km per tank.

I would fit a EGT Gauge and or a wide band O2 sensor to find out whats going on could be as simple as running more boost (but that's my answer for everything.) or a split intercooler hose.
5L+GT35@21psi= 223RWHP
5L+GT35@30+psi= 287RWHP....

Heya, I put some Moreys injector cleaner in yesterday as well. also reduced the weight and drag by removing the full toolbox out of the back and taking of the roof rack and fishing rod holder. Will see how that goes.

Also checked the radiator and a bit puzzled to find that it wasnt full, it wasnt anywhere near empty but it was down to the top of the core. Will have to keep an eye on that as well :(

i thought my fuel problems were sorted but my last full tank , $82 377km, and that was being a nana , what could be causing this? ive noticed ive got to let the glow plugs warm up first before starting now, but this is probably because of the cold weather,

i may aswell put a bloody 1uz or 1jz if this is the way its gonna stay, atleast id get more power and fun for my money
