The input seal on my hilux steering box is leaking. How hard are these to change? Looks like I can take of the flange on the input side (4 bolts) after taking off the steering shaft. Is the seal on the input shaft just an o-ring or is it more complicated than that?
Cheers,
Pete

Not sure what you one looks like but heres a pic of a 70 series one I rebuilt

Theres the input seal, has to come out from the inside I think (was a while ago)

Re: ln106 steering box input seal
By the looks of the pics, the outer ring is a lock nut. This must be slackened off first and the whole seal carrier is wound out using the little holes as a fix point. Using a pin spanner this is easy. I have a multi fit tool for such a job because I do lots of steering and hydraulic rams. The seal looks like a "common garden variety" lip seal that can be obtained from any seal shop.
Tip, put some electrical tape over the splines to protect the new seal when reassembling
Easy job

I keep looking for the loose nut behind the wheel, but I can't find it!!
Re: ln106 steering box input seal
Yeah I got all the seals to do that box for $16 from seal imports
Was a pretty easy job once I figured out how to get it apart
I didnt have a fancy tool to undo it, I just used a small punch to carefully loosen it off then a pair of poly grips to undo it
