WTD: Ideas on engine prices/donor truck

Post by Filthy4x4 »

Im after a rough idea on how much im going to need to sort out a new engine for my hilux.

Its a 1990 ln130 surf running a near dead 2lte.

Im looking at either buying a motor or buying a donor truck (dregd/crashed etc)

I would ideally like to get my hands on a 3l or a 1kzte but would settle for a MINT 2lte.

Anything i need to look for in the 3l or 1kzte? Kms? Problems? Price?

Anyone got either a donor truck with mint motor or a mint motor lying round?

Cheers,
Caleb

I have been keeping an eye on the vans but have been told the super custom is the one with the 2lte in it. Do you know which model has the 2.8?

Theres also a toyota mark 2 that has a 2lte in it but its prob rare enough to be expensive anyway.

Just your normal old,Basic as hell, tradie van has the 2.8l diesel. DX model I think. You can then bolt on your 2lte turbo manifolds etc and have a 2.8turbo diesel.

That would be a cool conversion but I bet would cost plenty of $$$. I would ideally love to put a diesel v8 in but thats a long way off.

There seems to be alot of 3L diesels in the hiaces. According to wikipedia they didnt make the "luxury 3L" until 2001, but these vans are all around 94-96.

At first I thought maybe an input error but there was a few of them listed as the same.

A 3L is (2.8litre),2L (2.4Litre),5L (3.0litre) etc. The only 3Litre Turbo engine that came out in hiaces are 1kztes usually only in the Super Customs.

A 5L is even better, its the 3 litre version of the L series so is just as much a bolt in conversion as the 3L.

I run a 5L in my 85 hilux in place of the original 2L

Small amount of wiring, small amount of fabrication, you could have a SAS 2.8 intercooled turbo wagon and make a bit of money on it selling off left overs. Buy ethans solid axle bighorn. have some photos of a surf conversion if interested

iv got a 3b in the front of my 40 and its pretty gutless to be honest. i wouldnt choose it as replacement engine. apparently if you turbo them they can be alright.

just my opinion

cheers
