Confusion with PMs

Just wondering if I've done something incorrectly, replied to a PM and it is sitting in my Outbox and hasn't come up as Sent. Replied to the message and clicked on Submit. Any reason it is in Outbox rather than sent?

I think they stay in your outbox until the recipient reads the P.M

Thanks for the quick replies. Thought that may of been that.
