LOCKRITE DIFF LOCKER..are they ok in the front
Just wondering if they would work ok in he front of my Wrangler,i know... have been advised to put in rear but the LSD is still working fine..i know not a thing about auto lockers as have always had ARB air lockers but circumstances have changed and cannot afford [ have grandchildren and great grandchildren living with us now ..lol..] But thought maybe try some lockrite or something similar
...A PS the Wrangler really is going great,the problems have been very miner [ touch wood ] and it has been in some amazing places..doesn't look new any more ...lol..running costs would be the lowest I've had on any 4x4 except for fuel of course ....lol...lol..wished i had bought one years ago

I've got a lockrite in the front of my prado. Offroad its fine. On road with front hubs out its unnoticable. But on road in 4wd eg ski field, it does make the steering pretty busy. It understeers then kicks pretty quickly to oversteer. Not really bad but not relaxing driving.

i would not reconmend it for the front had one in the front of sj413 make it hard to steer under power and loved smashing cvs only had it in for a few trips then put the open diff back in

I have a lokka in the front of my Hilux, works really well. Never had any problems with breakages or anything, just comes down to how hard you drive things.
On Road I have the hubs unlocked so you dont even know its there. When the hubs are locked and Im wanting to make a turn etc, you just need to give the accellerator a little blip,and as long as there is abit of traction it will unlock while you make the turn. Its all about gettin it to unlock and to do so I just had to change my driving style a little to suit. Sometimes it doesnt unlock but its not that often.
I also have a Lokka in the rear, I pretty much walk through most stuff, no breakages !! Cheers...............

Thanks guys,i have had front lockers before just not the the auto kind,there seems 2 trains of thought on this ..lol..quite keen as they are cheap,i would do the back but seems a shame to waste the LSD

LOL.you certainly could if i had it ...it had the 44 in when i bought it [ a bonus i'm told ],still has the 30 in the front,i'm going most places 4x4s are using lockers with out to much trouble,but would be nice just for a bit more piece of mind ...lol..

a) Ive got a lokrite in the front of the zj. With it running in 2wd onroad its fine, not even noticable (XJ 231 tc in, no fulltime 4wd, with the 249 in it was shocking)
Offroad its great, they dont clunk in an out like they used too, very smooth and stable, drive it nice. However, nail the fuk out of it like this https://www.facebook.com/home.php#!/vid ... 9&comments while playing silly buggers and youll break axles. (or two axles as happened here) I still need to wind out the bolts on the steering yoke to limit the lock, fairly certain its the lock combined with the right pedal that causes the breakages. Limit the lock and ya limit the strain.
b) Ive got a dana 44 ouf of a TJ, minus rear axles, that is available for relocation to a new owner. Was going to pop it into the ZJ but the care factor decreased to zero.

Had a front auto locker for 5 years now. wouldnt have anything else. Can't forget to put it in, no air systems to let you down, no electrical issues. Just dont hard lock it and put the boot up it. You have the weight of the engine on at least one driving wheel, gives you the best traction for walking through stuff. you won't break stuff unless your being silly as driving style should change with lockers, its now more fun to try and go as slow as possible through stuff

I ran an XJ pretty hard with a Lockright in the front D30 and a Detroit in the rear D35 worked real good.
The lockright is a very good option in the front D30
Cheap and easy to install
Only issue is a bit of clicking on the blacktop when making tight turns. Also stay away from full time 4wd in the 242 case on the blacktop.
