Southwards Car Museum

Post by skid »

woke up to torrential rain and thunderstorms outside.
decided to get out of bed at 12 noon and go for a drive to Southwards Car Museum as it had been years since I last went and Tara had never been there before.

Wicked place, hasn't changed much..................

Went there today aswell, after we went to the Expressway "whoohaaa". My daughter thought the best part was the funny mirrors and the lift   easily impressed she is

Loved the gangsta car, gunshot marks and all.

tappets covers and exhuast stacks (they look like P40 Warhawk stacks) are wrong from both the RR merlin or Griffin.

Id say it's a Alison 1710, it's actually mounted back to front, the "front" where the prop used to be is mounted to the gearbox.

lol P40 is a Kittyhawk/Warhawk

Warhawk was the American designation for the P40, Kittyhawk was the Pommy designation for the P40

RNZAF P51 D Mustangs had RR Merlin's, however early P51 A and B Mustangs where fitted with the Allison, but no A or B P51 served in the Pacific region, due to the Alison engine lack of power at altitudes higher than 30 000 feet and the fact it wasn't fitted with a turbo supercharger like the Merlins, the later Mustang were powered with the supercharged Merlin (same as the English Spitfire) and became one of the best fighters of WWII.

still 1475hp in a P40 was 'adequate", but in a drag car O for Awesome

  useless history lesson for ya
