I got a swivel rebuild kit for the Hilux courtesy of Don Kyatts - awesome service from them.
Anyway, it came with a full set of gaskets for each side, I've always used the red gasket goo in my diffs and everything but only due to not having paper ones.
Is there any benefit to one over the other?
Paper gaskets or gasket goo?

goo's earier to clean off than paper gaskets next time you have to pull your hubs apart

Grease up the paper ones, will help them settle the gasket better and also means when you come to pull them off, they wont stick.

I like to decide which side I want the gasket to stick too next time I pull something apart with with not riping the gasket and ease of assembly in mind then goo one side and grease on the other.

X2 on that. I like to make sure the paper sticks only to the side I find easier to work with. Usually dry that side and grease the other.

Further to what others have said .
A paper gasket is only good when the mating surfaces are clean , level and damage / corrosion / scorring /pitting free.
I always use goo on both sides know as I've had water get in , wash the grease out and then make it inside my hubs etc.

Re: Paper gaskets or gasket goo?
Depends what kind of goo.
I always use Loctite 518. Stays liquid until compressed and then only dries to a gel for easy dis-assembly.
Another good tip is, trace the new gasket on some gasket paper and file for later use, I have a shelf of them for my truck, but not worried about supply
Cheers,

I keep looking for the loose nut behind the wheel, but I can't find it!!
