28-29 May 2011

Post by phraza »

Well my weekend started today, day off work.

Got the alternator back in the Safari. Runs like a dream now! Until i went to take it for a drive and found my brake pedal stiff as anything. So did some investigating and fixed a hose at the vacuum pump and now its mint!

Picking up the ARB roof rack this weekend. And winch wiring, so thats next on the list!

cheers

Got new idler arm(Cheers Hamish) and chucked it in, Worked a treat, much better on road, made obvious that the old one was buggered, only problem is the idler brace wont fit on, needs a hole drilled bigger so hopefully sort that tomorrow.
Painted snorkel, just need to wait for abit of warmth to give another coat and seal inside with Black Gaurd.
Also drained and flushed radiator and filled up with fresh antifreeze.

I got a txt saying my fuel injectors are ready, so I will be able to put them in but unfortunatly I wont be able to work on the truck this weekend bummer as there were several things I wanted to do.

The truck should haul a*se now, as having 2-1/2 exhaust and boost running at 14 PSI + serviced injectors should run mint.

That's the beauty of my design for an idler brace, fully adjustable.
Took half a day off today to change shattered CV's. Will post with pics later in the weekend.
Cheers,

Well had yesterday off to finish fixing the camper so the wife could go away today (all completed and she left this morning). Went to a wreckers that was closed and saw a bighorn body with a few bits on it that I wanted. So went back a few hours later and saw it on the back of a scrap metal truck he told me to follow him back to the yard and said for $20 I get 10min to take what ever I want.

It was just the body that was pretty damaged. I managed to get front lights, back lights, indicators, back windows and a rear spoiler with highstop. so pretty happy as the wrecker when I rang sayd $20 just for the spoiler. was gutted it wasnt a diesel one as I need a airbox for my one. Thanks Kamo Scrap Metal and 2min later the bigorn was a cube lol.

Also cleaned the bighorn inside and out today and fixed my rear lights from woodhill (fuse again). Plan for tomorrow is to redo my snorkel.

Spent a lot of the weekend working on the Hilux

Installed my new rear work/fog light (Rigid industries LED) It seems pretty good although has only lit up the garage door so far.

Set up an in cab winch control. Just used my old winch's remote plug so I can plug the remote in inside the cab.

And am partway through replacing the kingpin bearings on the passengers side. Have struck an issue with some stuborn cone washers :?

Yeah I spent the weekend at the NZFWDA AGM aswell, but the good news it finished early on the Sunday so I was able to work on the truck and get the solniode rewired and get my new winch rope on thanks to HiluxDan thanks for helping me spool it on the drum 8) and for Sibainmud for pointing out my cock up of how I wired it up  cheers for that 8) .

Also it was good to meet up with Bob (Moriarty) it was good to put a face to a name.

Saturday morning started off all good was going to head over to a farm i have access to on banks peninsula to help setting up an enduro for my brothers motor cross club, heading to the gas station noticed a rumble from LF of the hilux, filled the truck up,$88. then decided there was no way i was gona get to the farm on that wheel bearing, carried on 200m up the road to lineside motors, got a wheel bearing kit went home fitted it.
On the road an hour later, got to the farm loaded the pegs an arrows onto the hilux and headed up the farm, slippery as f&%k, hard packed greasy clay farm tracks on hill country :D
had fun getting up those and tryin to keep the truck in a straight line and on track truck had several attempts at leavn the track, be a bloody good property for a winch challenge
Some very tricky and or dangerous terrain.
All in all had a rough start but had alot of fun and learnt some lessons the fun way :)

You'll never guess why the engine wouldn't go back in and how long it took me to find it

Two dowel pins aren't better than one   , at least not in the same position (one in block, one in bellhousing)

I was looking for 1.5 mins :D

Did a wee recovery this morning that got me out of the house.
Still have the right hand CV shaft to fit.
