righto, just doing a wee bit of research
looking at going from White Rock road around to Cape Palliser road via the beach front etc etc
according to 102 north island trips book it can be done
whats the status on this stretch of land, according to google earth the end of white rock road looks like a massive shingle fan that seems impassable
who knows the access ???

I have been right around that coast line about 5 years ago with the CCVC, a nice easy trip, that huge shingle fan was quite easy, very firm.
However my understanding is that one of the farms along the coastline near Cape Palliser is now closed to public access and from previous comments on here I believe that still stands
Cheers

Re: south wairarapa access
Access is possible through the farm. You just have to get hold of the farmer. He lives in Carterton I think.
He just wants to know who is on his land.
I'll see if I can get a phone number for you

Re: south wairarapa access
I've been round there a few times recently, last time was a few weeks ago. If you head round from the cape palliser side there's a gate by the lighthouse, you can drive to ngapotiki hut, then just over the next hill is a huge impassable gate.
The track is in good condition and can be tackled in a single vehicle. I saw a farmer on a quad round there and he said it was sweet to go there. Met a guy at ngapotiki hut who said the land from palliser to ngapotiki was owned by doc now? But not sure weather that was true.
Respect the land and livestock, leave the gates as you find them and hopefully the situation will stay the way it is!
check out the grouse waterfall halfway there. Take a fishing rod and a surfboard.

This is the couple that runs Orongorongo station. I've been interested in doing the same drive down Coast rd in Wainuiomata and gaining access to the beach there. Not only to gain access to that track but to dive for cray and/or fish. They will only allow clubs onto their land. If you organize a trip with a club please let me know!

Re: south wairarapa access
just wanting to do a shiny drive around the area
never been to Lake Ferry, wanna see the Pinnacles and Cape Palliser lighthouse etc etc
thought of staying at this DOC Lodge
http://www.doc.govt.nz/parks-and-recrea ... uku-lodge/
but if it turns out that its too hard to get around from Ngapotiki Road onto Cape Pallider Road, then I guess I'll maybe change the route slightly and head through Sutherlands Hut/Track
http://www.doc.govt.nz/parks-and-recrea ... lands-hut/
still a work in progress at the moment
