Whats a Warn M5000 worth

Post by FORGE1 »

Hey Im looking at buying a Warn M5000 for my bighorn

After doing a bit of reading on if its going to be enough for my wagon I decided it will be sufficent enough as its only a SWB.

I have been offered one for $400 with a wireless remote and recently serviced and only used a small number of times.

Would that be a good price for it?
or
What would you reckon its worth?

Any info would be much appreciated.

Cheers
Ray

this isnt really going to answer your question and others may have different opinions about smaller winches but I'd never put anything less than 8000 lbs on a 4wd, at the end of the day a winch needs to be functional and often you need shitloads more pulling power to allow for the extra 5 tonnes of mud and shit your bogged down in to get yourself out, a 5000 lb winch will probably look pretty cool on the front of any truck but it probably wont be up to a lot of the tasks expected of it once its bolted on. Go and have a look at what runva are selling on Tm and you can get yourself a pretty good 8000, 9500 or 12000 for about double that and it'll come with a $300 synthetic rope already attached, far better bang for your buck IMO

I agree with Sadams post.
Also you may feel that 5000 lb is enough to pull your SWB out, but what about when you hook up to someones LWB Cruiser/Nissan etc to recover them?
One of those situations where bigger is better. To a point. :D

Thanks for the info this was my concern and I tought I had ticked all the boxes but thinking about it and when I had my PTO on my old SWB Safari I got bellied and that took huge strain just getting that out as all 4 wheels were in the air and that will probably happen to me again and the 5000lbs wont be enough.

Looks like I need to find something bigger.

Might look at the Ridge Ryder from Super Cheap or a Runva of the same 9500lbs.

Cheers again.

To small dude, You know I run the Runva 9500 on my Samurai ! , Me is thinking you need at least that. Think about being bellied in thick mud, think about the suction that would have. Now do you think 5000lb is enough?

Yep, I got so stuck in my suzuki once that it took 1x electric winch and a pto winch on a double line pull to get me out! Only just worked too...
