Surf wont change into O/D

Post by nt_a_foz »

My KZN130 wont change into overdrive. Just started the other day when i started after sitting for a couple of weeks.

Have had a quick search on the net sounds like its a common problem with ecu or overdrive solenoid.

Have pulled apart ecu and nothing LOOKS fried might take it to a sparky to get checked however.

Anyone able to point me into the direction of hte overdrive solenoid and how to find it/test it?

Its a known common problem...will be the capitors in the ECU...they leak over time & it will no longer go into OD.
This link will put you in the right direction.

Sweet thanks after a bit more google searching last night come to the same conclusion that its most likely this.

Will package up and send to Anything Electronic this morning apparently they are the ones to send it too so hopefully it sorts it out. Bloody annoying only having 3 gears lol

   , You haven't by any chance fitted a switch to your speedo  , so you can turn it off ---- only when off road ----- of course , have only heard about it   this when switched can cause this same fault  ,

Hmmm wish i tested this prior to sending ecu off this morning.
However have had one fitted for off road use for ages and has just started not selecting O/D.

Fingers crossed its the ecu and all will be sweet again.

A setup i seen once on a surf was the circuit board in behind speedo had the line from speedo to odometer scratched off and a wire on each of the soldered terminals soldered on with a switch that way you can see how fast your going offroad but odometer wont turnover when back on road switch odometer back on  wouldnt recomend this as its probably illegal

onky reason i ask was because we have a farm truck that requires to be regd for moving stock along the roads, fair enough..but paying excessive rucs for not using the rds is BS...

if anyone can pm with any tips on this speedo mod that would save us alot of wasted money......

we would do about 100kms a year on the rd and about 1000kms off it,maybe more seeing as we dont run a quad anymore...
if theres a way to stop the speedo once we are on farm that would help...im not out to rip off the system, just want it to be fair

There is a way you can do it all legally by claiming it back through NZTA somehow. just like if you're running a petrol quad or dirt bike off road only truck, boat etc... you can claim back the tax on the petrol they charge you at the pump

To legally claim RUC back all you have to do is run a log book and fill out the form, its what I do

Work time shouldn't be an issue the log book is about recording when you are not on road e.g start and end milage and date/s. LTSA is cracking down on avoiding RUC at the moment I have heard, they are doing this through the warrent procces - when you get your warrent the milage is recorded and then compared against previous milage
