The bigest is the best. Bang for buck i would look at a Tigerz 10,000lb or if you planned on loading the Nissan up even a 12,000lb model. In my opinion any thing smaller than a 10,000lb one might not cut the mustard when you really need it. :|

for a Heavy a$$ed Lwb Whale? ...(and for the minimuim $ diff between the 10000 and 12000lb) Id fit a 12000lb, don't stuff around with anything less ... and make sure you have a couple of pulley blocks in the truck as well.

Mine is a LWB with the factory PTO, and Ive had her bellied so deep even the PTO couldn't shift her with a single line pull, even with a double line pull she was struggling to break suction so ended up doing a triple line pull to get her sorry ass out of the Naki Mud.

a bit further into this bog and I was stuggling on a Single Line pull admittedly it was a 100m straight pull and the mud just got deeper and deeper and she started to bulldoze prob another ton of mud in front of the truck by the time I got to the other side.

Big is best along with a nice selection of pully blocks, shackels and tree trunk protectors etc so you can do multiple line pulls when nessecary

If you plan on using it in anger, quality might cost you more initially, but will save you headaches when you really need it to work.
I dont think i'd buy less than a 12,000Lb model.
Dont follow me. i'll get stuck and need a tow..

You all forget one thing. The most powefull eletric winch used on a Safari is based on an 8000lb winch. The manufacturers rating doesn't mean much at the end of the day so if you don't give it enough power then it will still be crap!
I'd say wait a few weeks as there is a winch test happening soon and that will take a competition winch truck and will have different winches fitted to it and few different tests undertaken.
The winches tested will be very relevent to a Safari so should help you decide.

The factory PTO will out pull pretty much any after-market electric winch you can buy these can be retrofitted although might not be possible with an auto.

Hi Darinz,
So far my investigations are pointing towards the Runva EWX9500-Q 9500lb electric winch - it has a big 8.6HP 12v motor. Regarding the winch tests. Where can I find the results?

I have a 9000lb on my 2200kg Navara. I wouldn't recommend anything smaller. Me thinks a 12000lb winch for a fat arsed lwb Safari would be ideal.
If you break it... build it stronger.

i,ve got the same truck and yeh wouldn't go under anything less than 12000lb. Even then would have the biggest batterys you can fit and some big arse cable from winch to batterys

The winch is sitting on the floor in my shed and preparations for the Taupo 1000 have meant i haven't done a thing towards the testing. Should be able to get it done in the next 3 weeks but life is getting in the way of 4x4 stuff at present!
