Question for National Winch Challenge competitors

Post by skid »

quickly looked on the challenges website but its little used these days, so throwing the question up on here.

As most of may of heard, we are going to holding the final round of the National Winch Challenge Series in Wellington at the end of November which will also be the North/South round as well.

"My question to all you competitors is how many stages do you expect and how long do you expect the average stage time/length to be" :?: :?:

We just ran the 2011 Kiwi Teams Challenge over the weekend and had a total of 18 day stages and 1 night stage over two days

to be honest the majority of the trucks were't as capable as national comp trucks and to that extent only 1 teams completed all of the stages we set. The times on the stages ranged from 2 minutes up to around 30-40 mins for the harder ones, or for those less capable they managed to blow it out to 1 hour 45 mins

so anyway, just curious to know what the competitors want so we know where to make adjustments

cheers guys

Hey Skid, nice thread jack. You coming up to marshal?

I reckon around 10 to 20 min stage times for normal day stages. With 24 trucks racing and 6 stages in a day, the maths looks like this.

4 trucks in each group and running all 6 stages at once. 4 trucks using the full 20 min stage time is 80 min. Add 20 min for breakages. So thats 100 mins. Now get through another 5 stages. 600 min or 10 hours of racing. That sounds a bit much for comfort.

We usually run a mix of 10, 15 and 20 min stages. Usually giving a Dnf time of 25 mins for all.

Hope that helps. So what stages shall I put you on for marshalling?

Cheers

We would normally run 3 night stages and 10-13 day stages depending on the stage lengths, but generally a 25min DNF

Hi Skid ,With the Superwinch this year on the Fri afternoon we set 4 stages ,Sat 8 stages and Sun another 6 ,we put a club truck and a couple of challenge trucks through each stage took an average of their times added 5 mins and that was the DNF ,most our our dnf times were 15/20mins a couple 30 mins ,we ended up with a couple of stages not used ,WE had dedicated recovery trucks to get them out quickly when they dnfed this helped keep things rolling along .the main problem we had was running 3 classes over the same stages ,some of the newer teams and trucks not set up as well as others can cause delays this inturn compounds and in the end you end up not running a planed stage or two just to finish at a reasonable hour .(were going to chenge that next year) We ran 4 groups on the FRi and 5 groups on the SAt/Sun .If you have the man power i think it pays to run as many stages at the same time with smaller groups .If i can help in anyway drop me a PM and we can have a chat .Cheers Steve

We have a brand new truck that we are desperately trying to get ready for Rotarua and are trying to sort out the rest of the year, do you have a date in November in mind and which club is hosting the finals?
Thanks
