Re: opinions on some 40s
Yes do, just 'cause 40 inch tyres on a zook would be farkin mental.
No other reason.

Either 40x13.5x17 trepador comp or 40" TSL Swamper but the swamper is 18" wide.
Toyota Landcruiser FJ40, front and rear lockers, 35" simex.
Toyota FJ45 build in progress.
Tires are like boobs, they always look big until you have played with them for a while, then you just want a bigger set.

Youd have to stretch the wheelbase a loooong way to put 40's. mros old one was dodge enough with 36's and that was stretched a long way

how far out did he go tus just been reading his build thread again
Re: opinions on some 40s
As long as you have a spare set of 35's lying round to use on property where there is a limit on tyre size, then go for it...

thats kind of how I feel too, but considering the NZ4WDA body is trying too make it a 35 max country wide eventualy we wil be getting turned away from places and events. the other side of the coin is where does it stop. most people running 35,s dont want too go thru ruts made by 40's as you obviously wont touch the bottom. so every body runs 40's to keep up. then some to get an advantage and to be able to drive the ruts made by 40's run 42's and so on and so on.
I hate rules of almost any form and often want to and do tell people to get fked but as we all want to drive the same tracks I think tyre size does need to be restricted for our own good as well as the greenies.
our club hawkes bay has a 35 rule, partly so if the NZ4WDA ruleing comes in we wont have a lot of money in tyres that cant be run.
Re: opinions on some 40s
Ah its always a good argument isnt it, I can see valid points from both sides of the table.
Why not limit axle clearance intead of tyre size, for example: zuks only run 31"s, hilux axles (or similar) limited to 33"s, patrol cruisers etc limited to 35"s thatd level the playing field somewhat

Looks like ill be buying some 35" simexs an giving it plenty of jandle, digging big holes instead of cruising round on my 37"s Now wheres the emoticon for pulling the fingers

Re: opinions on some 40s
If only there was a f**kwit muppet o meter for tyre resellers so that morons couldn't purchase tyre's that are beyond their level of ability all would be well, but there isn't

Re: opinions on some 40s
so with this proposed ban of tyres over 35" I dont understand how that will stop everyone with 35" tyres digging holes that the jokers with 33, 32, 31 and smaller tyres cant drive through or have I missed something here?

fully hate the idiots that try and ban the larger tyres.

Re: opinions on some 40s
NZ4WDA limit on tyre size was voted against. Our club had no limit at this stage either, I can't think of anywhere in manawatu other than costas that has a limit.
Personally: I don't believe that 40's will cut deaper ruts than 35's unless driven by an idiot, I've followed Jafa round a few tracks, he doesn't dig, he sits on top instead!!
Out of interest: My Lada has more ground clearance on 31's than my hilux diff'ed suzuki on 35's!! (Mainly cos the diffs are so bloody tiny!!
)
....Back on topic, If you can build your truck strong enough to handle the grip and size of 40's, then do it!! If you need to then borrow a set of 35's for certain places so be it...
