lifts laws to be inforced

Post by coxsy »

new laws 50mm lift, fine. over 50mm needs a cert or no wof, over 100mm lift, you will need a cert plus a nzfwda card signed by your club captain or pres that you are a active 4wd owner, card last a year, no one can have a lifted truck over 100mm and not be in a club, take it or nothing by the powers that be, fight and have no lifted trucks
those who are part of the NZFWDA need to inform you all better

Is this regarding suspension lift, body lift or both?

do you know when this is coming through?
be interested to see the wording on the virm.
being part of a club sounds like a bit of a fairy tale, needing a cert sounds plausible, following big brother australia...

Just to help better interpret Coxys post into english:

A 50mm lift will be legal

Over 50mm of lift will require a LVVC to obtain a WOF

100mm of lift and over will require LVVC and proof of 4x4 club and NZ4WDA membership.

Im my opinion its a complete joke.

Its just more bullshit and red tape bureaucracy.

The current rules are fine. They just aren't policed properly.

Typical confusion from Coxsy.

A brief summary
NZTA want to ban or severely limit lifted vehicles.
At present you are allowed up to 50mm suspension lift without a modified vehicle certification. All body lifts no matter how small need certification.
NZFWDA are represented on the LVVA and have been making submissions.
To allow some sort of lift the proposal is for no more than 50mm spring/suspension lift and no more than 50mm body lift. Body lifts would need to be approved or certified by certain specialist certifiers.
Because of concerns regarding the ability of people to drive safely with vehicles with body lifts only people who have 'proved' themselves as bona fide off road drivers will be allowed to have lifted vehicles. To prove you do drive off road, you will need to belong to a Club affiliated to the NZFWDA and will apply and receive a card that lasts only for 12 months. As you renew your membership the card will be renewed as well.
If you sell the vehicle the card is not transferable and would not allow others to legally drive your vehicle.

WOW

I'm a bit gobsmacked. Land of the free an all.

Its just hit the same category as been a collector of automatic firearms! Needing to belong to a club etc
Guns dont kill people - body lifts do!

Whilst I can see what they are trying to achieve, I agree with Dieselboy, it is nothing but pen pushers just making life difficult for those that follow the rules and the people that don't care about safety now and will run dangerously high and un-certed vehicles will continue to do so.

It doesn't matter what sort of interests you have, there is always some dickhead at the top with no clue making bullshit rules.

So if you currently own a vehicle that is lifted more than 100mm and is certified and road legal, does this mean that suddenly your vehicle will be illegal???

what a crock of s$*t this is. Do those morons not realise those that lift their trucks and acutally use them off road understand how a lifted truck handles?.

Ah well out comes the grinder then!! I'll just do some dodgy body mods instead of a safe spring lift.

I'm more than disgusted.
I want to put my perspective on it....
I work full time driving and operating 6X6 airport fire vehicles, have done for just under 20yrs, they cost 1.4 million each and weigh 36 tonnes a piece.
Now thanks to some bullshit red tape and FukFace tosspot's I have to prove my ability on the road to operate a pussy arse <50mm lifted vehicle :?:
I say LTSA, and NZ4WDA (most clubs down here in the south don't bother with you).....GET REAL

i think the only people to blame is the boy racers trading in their lowered turbos for raised trucks, being dicks on the roads and thrashing their trucks offroad and cutting up reserves and throwing their woodstock cans out in the bush..

as for those of us that do it right and drive safe trucks will generally be fine whatever the laws may be...

Well, because at this stage it only in discussions with NZTA and LVVA and not that worthy of inflaming the situation.

Going off half cocked with badly worded statements that get misinterpreted as you did only inflames the situation.

Supposedly they actually don't want you to have any sort of lift, suspension or body, and this is perhaps a suggestion to a compromise. We need to wait and see what the outcome really is.

Why do you think the NZFWDA did that quick survey on lifted vehicles? To have some stats to work with.

As with a lot of political stuff they 'rumour' some really big drastic changes that people don't want so that when they do make a change that's not as bad, you accept it rather than fighting it.

If the NZFWDA is going to play it all secert squirrel and keep everything under wraps and not let members know whats going on then in my opinion they are no longer representing their members, I didnt paticipate in their little survay for that reason that they wernt disclosing what it was about, I went and had a look through their website and I couldnt find any information about what they are up to and I still cant?

Hadley "secert squirrel" it was discussed in detail at the recent NZFWDA conference, to which every member was invited. your delegate should be providing feedback to every club. There will be an article sent to every member via Trail Torque shortly but I need a a little time to sort some details before I am able to provide a full update. I am very happy to answer specific questions and receive realistic suggestions either via this forum or via private message. I do however prefer that people put their real name to messages and questions.
