Has anyone welded up the front diff with free wheeling hubs?

I am wanting to weld up the front diff once i get some free wheeling hubs just wondering if you have done this?

I have done it, its shit, ask anyone with a locker in the front, unless you have hydro steer, then steering is pretty much non existent, to go around corners one wheel needs to spin faster than the other, with a lock/welded diff both wheels are spinning at the same speed, hell its a pain in the ass in the rear diff, let alone the front diff.

I have a front diff lock and steering with it in is a pain. So don't do it.

my front diff is welded and i have no issues with steering.

Ive got locker in the front and its good as gold and i dont have hydro steer, my rear diff is welded too and its easy as to drive.

i have the same set up in vomitron (a trailer queen) as classiccruiserspares has in his. auto locker front with welded rear. its mint and i have no problems with steering what-so-ever. sharp corners etc under throttle have no issues.. welded front is shizenhouser, auto or selectable locker in front is the only way i'd go.

Yeah but you two have a shit ton of off-road experience. I thought my answer was my best opinion i could give a 'novice' offroader.

Don't be sorry, he is saying he has a auto locker in the front, quite different to a welded front! They do let you turn pretty well.

i can turn easily with welded front, hasnt caused me issues with tight turns or unable to not steer.

everyone has their own opinion and wat ever works for you works for you, just so happens that mine works perfectly and was already welded wen i brought the truk so have just left it as have had no probs and am happy with it.

Cool I'm just giving ya sh!t brother. I had near new 35" Crawlers with plenty of grip. It felt like it was binding up (which they do) when you tried to turn the steering wheel. Personally I wont be welding another front diff.

I had a play with welded diff in the front, normally have it in the back but swapped it over for one trip to see what it was like...

Conclusion I came up with was it was crap loads of fun when you are on an extremely low grip surface, Helps with cross axle situations and climbing ability and with a bit of carefull throttle control you could turn corners "OK-ish",
BUT as soon as you go onto a track with anything more than minimal grip, steering is a pain in the arse, IE: 5 and 7 point turns to get round corners that others did in one turn!!

Would I use welded in the front again?? ...NO. Simple as that.

Welded diff's now back in the rear diff and I've got a Air locker being installed in the front...

I know this isn't what you want to hear, but this is what it's like in the real world!

it is VERY ass puckering scary when you come down a steep slippery off camber corner with a masive drop off the side and you turn your wheel and keep going straight (due to a welded diff). If your hacking around on muddy farms or something then go for it but if you are doing tracks where turning is important then avoid it. I have done the same corner i speak of above in a truck with a front auto locker and it was the same deal start heading in a straight line (pucker ass), sometimes its a hard thing to over rule your natural instint (of getting off the gas or onto the brakes when heading for a massive drop) and "blipping" the throttle to get the front to unlock just in time to steer your way around the bend :mrgreen:

from all the replys im turning to the not welding it up although i want too,ha anyone know of a cheap front airlocker? seems like everyone has trouble with turning seems that is the only issue everyone has had.
